BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY

The UAlbany field hockey team looks toward its second conference matchup of the 2026 season, first at home, as they host Bryant on Friday. At 4-5, the Great Danes recently broke a losing streak with an overtime win at Hofstra. Freshman Quinty Reumer leads the team with eight goals and 17 points. Sophomore Mathilda Prada follows with four goals. Sophomore Jette Kura (13) and senior Mara Küskes (12) are the team's main playmakers as they lead with their respective assist totals. Junior Merle Vaandrager has started eight of nine games in goal for the Great Danes.

The Bulldogs started the season 5-3 before opening conference play at UMass Lowell with a shutout loss. Callie Caito and Valentina Funes lead the team with six goals and 13 points each. Maddy DeFilippo (four goals, two assists) follows with 10 points while Emerson Johnson has earned nine points from two goals and a team-high five assists. Maud van Lierop has started nine of 10 games in goal for Bryant, earning a .811 save percentage and a 1.15 goals against average.

The Great Danes return home Saturday to host Bryant in an America East matchup at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. UAlbany enters the contest at 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in America East, sitting alone atop the conference standings with six points after earning its third consecutive victory with a 1-0 road win at UMass Lowell on Oct. 3. UAlbany has posted three straight shutouts and is on a four-match undefeated streak. Ivar Gissurarson leads the Great Danes with four goals and four assists for 12 points, while freshman Yuta Kimata has also recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points. UAlbany has also limited opponents to 10 goals through nine matches, the second-fewest in the America East.

Bryant enters the matchup at 6-2-2 overall and 1-1 in America East and will face UConn on Tuesday before traveling to UAlbany. The Bulldogs are tied for fourth in the America East standings with three points and rank second in the conference in scoring at 1.80 goals per game, while their 155 shots are also second-most in the league. Fermin Rodriguez leads Bryant with four goals and three assists for 11 points, while Brady Geho has four goals and two assists for 10 points.

UAlbany and Bryant have met five times overall since 2008 and four times in conference play since the Bulldogs joined the America East ahead of the 2022 season. The Great Danes hold a 2-3 all-time record, including a 2-1 mark at home. Bryant has won the last three meetings, including a 5-0 victory in Smithfield on Oct. 10, 2025. The Great Danes' last win came in a 3-0 shutout at home on Oct. 1, 2022.

Women's Soccer

The UAlbany women's soccer program returns to take on UMass Lowell, Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes are currently led by Sydney Kofton, who has recorded seven points from three goals and one assist. Kiara Levac and Oluchi Njkoku follow with five points each from two goals and one assist. Sara Tyler continues to lead all field players in minutes, logging 914 total. Claudia Volino has started every match in goal for the Great Danes, and played all but 24:44. In that time, Volino has recorded an 0.629 save percentage.

UMass Lowell (3-4-4, 0-0-3 America East) enter Sunday's contest coming off their third-straight conference draw. The Riverhawks drew nil-nil with Vermont Thursday, October 1 in Lowell. Nina Hertz-saebbö currently leads UMass Lowell's offense with 13 points from six goals and one assist. Nora Belin follows eight points from one goal and a team-high six assists.  Three goalkeepers have split time in net for the Riverhawks; however, Rachel Welch has logged the most starts (eight), games played (eight), and minutes (720). Welch has recorded 50 saves and a 0.820 save percentage as well as a 1.38 goals against average.

The Great Danes hold the all-time series lead between these two times with a record of 8-6-1. The last time these two teams met (2025), the Riverhawks came away with a 3-1 victory on their home pitch. UAlbany took a 3-2 win the year before (2024)  at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

The University at Albany women's golf team is set to host its marquee home event of the fall season this coming Sunday and Monday, welcoming a talented field to Normanside Country Club in Delmar for the newly renamed Doc Sauers Invitational. Marking the third year UAlbany has hosted the fall tournament, this year's event holds special significance as it is officially renamed in honor of the late Doc Sauers. Fans and supporters are encouraged to head out to Normanside Country Club over both days to follow the action and cheer on the Great Danes as they defend their home course.

The competitive 11-team field features Brown, FDU, LIU, New Haven, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Siena, St. John's, Stonehill, Williams College, and host UAlbany. Tee times and live scoring updates will be available throughout the weekend as the Great Danes look to put together a strong showing against a robust regional lineup in their final stretch of the fall slate.
