ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's rowing program and head coach
Kim Chavers have announced its Spring 2026 schedule, highlighted by a full slate of competitive regattas and the program's first appearance at the CAA Championship. The Great Danes will compete in seven events across five states, beginning in late March and continuing through mid-May.
"This spring represents a major step forward for our program," said Coach Chavers. "Competing at the CAA Conference Championships for the first time is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes and UAlbany. For a developing team, this is a significant milestone in gaining championship-level experience, challenging ourselves against strong competition, and continuing to set the standard for where we want this program to go."
UAlbany opens the spring season on Saturday, March 21, at the John Ferriss Regatta on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Ga., marking the program's first competition of the championship segment.
The Great Danes then head to Florida for the Sarasota 2k, held Friday and Saturday, March 27–28, at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. The two-day event provides an early-season test against strong national competition in championship-style racing.
April begins with one of the premier collegiate regattas in the country, the Knecht Cup, contested Saturday and Sunday, April 11–12, on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The event consistently features deep, competitive fields and serves as a key measuring stick for programs across the region.
UAlbany returns to New York on Saturday, April 18, for the New York State Collegiate Championships at Fish Creek in Saratoga, N.Y., offering the Great Danes an opportunity to compete against in-state rivals in a familiar venue.
Saturday, May 2, marks the Novak Memorial Metropolitan Championship at Glen Island in New Rochelle, N.Y., before UAlbany heads back to the Cooper River for the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, held Friday and Saturday, May 8–9, in Pennsauken, N.J.
The spring season culminates with a historic milestone for the program as the Great Danes compete in the CAA Championship, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15–16, on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The event marks UAlbany women's rowing's first appearance at the conference championship level.
