HOW IT HAPPENED
Gracie McCauley got UAlbany on the board early, weaving through the defense for an unassisted goal less than a minute into the game.
UMBC responded quickly with Emily Knapp finishing a feed from Libby Staples to even the score.
Mikaela Mooney answered on the other end, converting a free-position opportunity to reclaim the lead for the Great Danes.
Right off the ensuing draw,
Paisley Cook charged in for an unassisted goal, capitalizing on UAlbany's quick transition play.
Knapp tallied her second of the day for the Retrievers, again off a pass from Staples to keep it close.
Dylana Williams added to the offensive rhythm with a solo effort before later finding
Ava Poupard for a man-up goal to close the first quarter on a strong note.
McCauley opened the second with her second unassisted strike of the day, followed by another goal from Williams as UAlbany continued to build its lead.
Mooney extended the advantage with her second free-position goal, keeping the pressure on UMBC's defense.
The Retrievers cut into the deficit with a goal from Grace Bruce, assisted by Staples, and Knapp added two more - one from Tess Curtis and another unassisted - to make it a three-goal game heading into halftime.

Warfield struck again for the Retrievers early in the fourth, this time off an assist from Annika Wray, before
Zareena Sorho added another to tighten the gap.
Mooney answered with authority, converting her third free position of the game before striking again just a minute later off a feed from
Ava Poupard.
Mackenzie Salentre joined the scoresheet late, finishing a setup from Mooney to extend the lead.
UMBC closed the game with a last-second goal from Warfield, assisted by Emily Knapp, but the Great Danes' strong offensive output proved too much as they secured the win, 14-8.
