Women’s Lacrosse Dismantles Dolphins

Short Story: The University at Albany women's lacrosse program dominated Le Moyne 24-3 for the Great Danes' largest margin of victory at 21 points since defeating Niagara 23-1 back on March 11, 2011.

How it Happened:
  • UAlbany started off the first quarter scoring six unanswered goals in the first 9:30 minutes of play, highlighted by two goals from Kloey Roos.
  • Le Moyne tallied its first goal of the game just under 10 minutes into the game before Roos tacked on two more goals for the Great Danes to give her four goals in the first 11 minutes of play.
  • The Dolphins added one more goal before UAlbany added three more goals, including a buzzer-beating free-position rocket of a goal from Zareena Sorho.
  • The second quarter saw the Purple and Gold add on four more goals to make it a 7-0 run, highlighted by two goals from freshman Ravan Marsell, heading into halftime, and leaving the Dolphins scoreless in the second.
  • Two goals from Anasofia Cirincione highlighted the Great Danes ' goal third quarter, along with Kiran Smitka finding the back of the net as UAlbany led 19-2 heading into the fourth quarter of play.
  • Marsell would net her hat-trick goal of the game to start the fourth before Catrina Rowe found the back of the net for her first time in the game to make it a 21-2 contest.
  • Sarah Hunter of the Dolphins stopped the bleeding with 8:15 to play in the fourth scoring to end the Great Danes' 12-0 run as UAlbany maintained a huge 21-3 lead.
  • Cirincione would score her third goal of the game with 5:23 to play to go ahead 22-3.
  • Savannah Hodges and Sam Moyer capped off the Great Danes' scoring run as time expired to give UAlbany the 24-3 victory over Le Moyne.
 
UP NEXT: UAlbany's women's lacrosse team will return home for its final home game of the season on Saturday, April 19 against UMBC at noon where the team will honor its 10 graduating seniors following the game.
