Women’s Lacrosse Bested by #25 UConn

Short Story: The University at Albany women's lacrosse program fell to the No. 25 UConn Huskies 15-4 on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • UConn managed to score the opening goal on a successful free-position attempt a minute and a half into the game to make it 1-0.
  • Less than a minute later, the Huskies scored again to make it 2-0.
  • UAlbany got on the board with 11:13 left in the first when Ava Poupard scored on an assist from Courtney Rowe.
  • Mikaela Mooney evened the score at 2-2 less than a minute later.
  • UConn countered with a goal from Emma Dacey to make the score 3-2 with 10:13 to go.
  • The Huskies' Rayea Davis found the back of the net with 6:50 left to make it 4-2.
  • Two minutes later, Davis scored her second of the day to put UConn up 5-2.
  • In the final minute of the quarter, the Huskies' Jenna Giardina scored to make it 6-2.
  • The second quarter started slow, with neither team able to score for nearly six minutes. Eventually, UConn broke the stalemate with a goal to make it 7-2.
  • A minute later, Karsyn Burnash of the Huskies scored to extend the lead to 8-2.
  • Davis scored her third of the match with 7:43 left in the half to make the score 9-2.
  • Anna Zimmerman of UConn found the back of the net to push the score to 10-2.
  • With just over a minute left in the half, Eliza Bowman put the Huskies up 11-2 at the half.
  • UConn started the second half with a goal less than a minute in to make it 12-2.
  • The Great Danes were able to score with 8:50 to go in the third when Poupard netted her second of the game on an assist from Mooney to make the score 12-3.
  • With under a minute to go in the third, Davis scored her fourth of the game to push the score to 13-3.
  • To start the fourth quarter, Giardina netted her second of the game to make 14-3.
  • After more than 10 scoreless minutes, UAlbany's Dylana Williams found the back of the net to make it 14-4.
  • With just under a minute left, Lucia Smigiel of UConn scored the final goal of the game to make it 15-4.
