McCauley’s Four Goals Not Enough as Women’s Lacrosse Falls to UMass Lowell

Short Story: The University at Albany women's lacrosse program fell to conference opponent UMass Lowell on Saturday evening.

How it Happened:
  • Audra Hansen allowed UMass Lowell to take the early 1-0 lead with 11:11 remaining in the first.
  • Mikaela Mooney tied things up less than 30 seconds later before assisting on Ava Poupard's goal with just over eight minutes remaining in the first, giving the Great Danes a 2-1 lead.
  • Jillian Goldie would tie it for the River Hawks at 2-2 before Mikaela Mooney would dish out her second assist and third point of the game, thanks to a goal from Gracie McCauley.
  • McCauley began the second as she ended the first with a goal just under three minutes in to make it a 4-2 UAlbany lead.
    The River Hawks would rally off four unanswered goals over the final eight minutes of the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead entering the half.
  • As UMass Lowell added another goal to their lead, McCauley recorded her third goal in the game off a free position shot with 4:30 to play in the second, cutting the Great Danes deficit to 7-5.
  • As the third quarter closed out, the River Hawks would outscore the Great Danes 2-1, with Courtney Rowe recording the lone UAlbany goal to make it 9-6, UML after three.
  • UMass Lowell improved its scoring run to 4-0 with three goals in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to jump out to a 12-6 lead.
  • Mikaela Mooney tallied her fourth point and second goal in the game with just over 10 minutes to play before another UML goal to make it 13-7 UML.
  • Gracie McCauley would record her fourth goal in the contest, followed by Mooney recording her hat trick goal before time expired as the River Hawks claimed the 13-9 victory over the Great Danes.
 
UP NEXT: UAlbany's women's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday, April 5, for its Every Child Matters game against New Hampshire at John Fallon Field. The first Draw is set for noon.
