SHORT STORY: The Great Danes came back from an early afternoon loss to Army to defeat the host, Mount St. Mary's, in six innings to split the final day of the Mount Softball Invitational, Saturday.
GAME ONE
RECORDS: UAlbany 5-12, 0-0 America East | Army 11-11, 0-0 Patriot League

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights scored first in the third inning to go up, 2-0.
- Christie Collins hit the first UAlbany single of the day in the bottom of the third. Taylor Quinn immediately followed with another single.
- Army gained a 5-0 advantage in the top of the fourth.
- Vanessa Meyers added a double in the fourth and the sixth and Caitlyn Frederick a single in the fifth but the Great Danes did not score until the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Sara Anderson drew a walk to get on base and lead off the inning. Frederick followed up and put two runners on with a single.
- Both Anderson and Frederick took advantage of Army's defensive errors and scored two runs for the Great Danes but it wasn't enough and the Black Knights earned the win, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ava Beal opened the game with a leadoff single.
- Taylor Quinn followed with her first triple of the game to bring home Caitlyn Frederick, on base from a fielder's choice.
- After Vanessa Meyers drew a walk, Victoria Vilarchao drove home both Quinn and Meyers to give the Great Danes an early 3-0 lead.
- Christie Collins added a hit and a run for UAlbany in the second inning.
- In the top of the fourth with one out on the board, Frederick laid down a bunt to take first base.
- Similar to the first inning, Quinn knocked the ball to the edges of the field for an RBI triple. Meyers followed with a groundout to bring home Quinn for an RBI.
- Up 6-0 at the end of four, Sara Anderson started the fifth inning with a double. After she advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Christie Collins, Beal hit an RBI single to make it a 7-0 game.
- In what proved to be the final inning, Kristina Langdon hit a two-run homer over the left-field fence for the final score of 9-0.
- The Mountaineers put a runner on base in all but the first inning but it wasn't enough as the Great Danes completed the shutout for a six-inning win.
NEXT: UAlbany will face Army once again with a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 19) before heading to Binghamton to start conference play (Mar. 22-23).
