SHORT STORY: The Great Danes came out strong to sweep on day one of the Mount Softball Invitational, Friday.
GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes started the scoring in the first inning as Taylor Quinn made her way around the bases.
- Army tied the score in the bottom of the third but UAlbany answered immediately with a second run in the top of the fourth.
- Two consecutive hits from Mary Kate Murray and Vanessa Meyers proved fruitful as Meyer's double drove in freshman Jenny Nardelli, pinch-running for Murray.
- Once again, the Black Knights tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Great Danes' senior Caitlyn Frederick and Christie Collins scored in the fifth and sixth inning, respectively, as UAlbany took a 4-2 lead.
- Army responded and tied the score at four in the bottom of the sixth.
- With two consecutive walks, Murray and Meyers got on base. Freshmen Kaitlyn Parisi and Sara Scozzari made their way from first to home to score two runs for the Great Danes.
- Despite putting a runner on base, the Black Knights were unable to score in the final inning and UAlbany earned the 6-4 win.

KEY STATS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany started with singles from the first two batters - Taylor Quinn and Ava Beal.
- Reaching on an error, Mary Kate Murray tabbed two RBI as both Quinn and Beal scored for the Great Danes.
- Murray followed and scored herself to give Deanna Grahek an RBI.
- UAlbany extended their lead to five in the second inning with runs from Caitlyn Frederick and Charlotte Lomb.
- Through three innings, Wieczerzak had struck out six batters.
- Lomb scored the Great Danes' sith run in the top of the fourth after getting on base with a single.
- All six batters in the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the fifth struck out bringing Wieczerzak's strikeout total to 12.
- Beal earned her RBI in the top of the sixth as Taylor Quinn, getting on base with a walk, scored from first base during her single to center field.
- Natasha Mendez hit a sac fly to bring in Beal for the Great Danes' eighth run.
- Wieczerzak ended the game with three more strikeouts to guarantee the shutout victory, in six innings, over the Mountaineers.
NEXT: UAlbany will return to action to face both Army and Mount St. Mary's once more on Saturday (Mar. 15).
