Women’s Lacrosse Downs Colgate, Picks Up First Win of Season

Short Story: 
The University at Albany women's lacrosse team claimed its first win of the year on Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting Colgate 15-14.  
  
Key Stat Lines  
  • Courtney Rowe and Dylana Williams led the team with five goals each.  
  • Mikaela Mooney tallied a hat trick and Gracie McCauley recorded two goals.  
  • Mooney owned a team-high four assists while Ava Poupard and McCauley each contributed one.

How it Happened:  
  • Dylana Williams struck first for the Great Danes with a goal at 11:12 in the first.  
  • Colgate answered less than three minutes later by putting one on the board at 8:28. 
  • Barely a minute later, Mikaela Mooney found Courtney Rowe to put UAlbany back on top. Thirty seconds later, Williams found the back of the net for her second goal of the game to make it 3-1. 
  • The Raiders came up with an answer less than a minute to put the score at 3-2 in favor of the Great Danes.  
  • With help from Gracie McCauley, Rowe netted her second goal for UAlbany at 4:56. 
  • Colgate responded at 4:01 to cut the Great Danes' lead back to one.  
  • With 1:51 left in the first, Mooney ripped in her first goal of the game. About 40 seconds later McCauley found the back of the net for the first time as well.  
  • The Raiders put their fourth on the board with 27 seconds left to finish out the first quarter, 6-4. 
  • Mooney opened up second-quarter scoring for UAlbany with her second goal of the game.  
  • Colgate netted a response less than two minutes later before finding another goal shortly after, 7-6.  
  • Rowe bagged a hat trick for the Great Danes at 10:34 and less than a minute later put her fourth on the board to keep UAlbany up, 9-6.  
  • The Raiders added a seventh goal to their tally at 6:24, the last goal of the half.  
  • Fifteen seconds into the third quarter McCauley scored her second goal of the game off a feed from Mooney.  
  • Mooney grabbed the Great Danes a second hat trick at 11:29 to make the score 11-7 with UAlbany still leading.  
  • Colgate scored their first goal of the third 20 seconds after Mooney's hat trick.  
  • Williams secured a third hat trick for the Great Danes, which strengthened their lead to 12-8.  
  • Almost five minutes later, the Raiders added a goal to the board before grabbing another under a minute later.  
  • UAlbany closed out the third quarter with a goal from Williams, assisted by Ava Poupard. The Great Danes were still on top 13-10 going into the fourth quarter.  
  • Colgate struck first in the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals.  
  • Rowe found the back of the net with just under 13 minutes for her fifth goal of the game, and tenth of the season.  
  • The Raiders cut UAlbany's lead to one less than two minutes later, the score 14-13 at 11:11.  
  • The Great Danes regained their two-goal lead when Williams scored her fifth goal of the game with just under ten minutes left in the game. 
  • With 3:44 remaining in the game Colgate scored to shrink UAlbany's lead to one.  
  • The Great Danes held off any more scoring to win the game 15-14.
