SHORT STORY: The Great Danes beat Siena in a dominant fashion to take home the Albany Cup, Wednesday night.
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Martina Borrellas led the team with a double-double - 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Freshman Amaya Stewart totaled a team-high 17 points.
- Four Great Danes scored in the double digits - Stewart, Borrellas, junior Lara Langerman (career-high - 14), and sophomore Delanie Hill (10).

- As a team, UAlbany outshot Siena from three, posting a 44.4% from three-point range compared to the Saints 16.7%. At half, the Great Danes were 16-27 (59.3%) from the field with a 60% accuracy from deep.
- The Great Dane defense prevented Siena from holding the lead at any point in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started as a defensive stalemate with neither team able to get on the board for nearly two minutes.
- It was Lara Langerman who got the scoring started when she made a layup with 8:02 left in the first.
- Two minutes later, Júlia Palomo Vicente started a 13-5 run that lasted the rest of the quarter to make the score 20-9. Within the run, Palomo Vicente scored her 1,000th career point and graduate Bella Stuart made a buzzer-beater three.
- The Great Danes got off to a strong start in the second with an 8-3 run in the first three minutes.
- UAlbany maintained control as the half came to a close led by 10 points from Stewart in the final four minutes and held a 22-point advantage heading into the third.
- The Great Danes continued to extend the lead after halftime when Martina Borrellas scored six during a 10-4 run in the first half of the third.
- Both teams traded points in the back half of the quarter and UAlbany carried a 57-33 lead into the fourth.
- Defense highlighted the fourth quarter with UAlbany narrowly outscoring the Saints in the final period.
- UAlbany won back the Albany Cup trophy with the 67-42 victory.
