This Week in UAlbany Athletics: November 17

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany basketball teams return home for a 90s night contest, and both the women and men's Albany Cup. 

Tuesday, November 18

UAlbany men’s basketball hosts Paul Smith’s on Tuesday night in the second home game of the season. The Great Danes enter the matchup averaging 72.8 points per game on 27.0 field goals, 8.3 three-pointers, and 10.5 made free throws, along with 38.5 rebounds, 17.3 assists, and 9.3 steals per contest.

Amir Lindsey leads UAlbany with 65 total points, shooting 21-53 (.596) from the field, 10-30 (.333) from three-point range, and 13-16 (.813) at the free throw line. Zacharie Matulu and Jaden Kempson share the team lead with 24 rebounds each, averaging six per game. Kempson also leads the Great Danes defensively with 12 steals.

Paul Smith’s enters Tuesday night with a 1-5 record after a 67-58 loss to New England College on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Bobcats are averaging 75.7 points per game on 28.3 field goals, 6.8 three-pointers, and 12.2 made free throws, along with 31.8 rebounds, 14.5 assists, 15.2 turnovers, and 6.8 steals per game.

Talon Brooks leads Paul Smith’s with 120 points, shooting 41-93 (.441) from the field and 21-56 (.375) from beyond the arc. Yashiro Hurst Jr. holds the team’s top field-goal percentage, shooting 42-83 (.503).

Wednesday, November 19

The UAlbany women's basketball takes on Siena for the annual Albany Cup at Broadview Center. The Great Danes are 2-2 with wins over Marist and Dartmouth and losses to Syracuse and Rhode Island. Three Great Danes are leading the team averaging double-digit points. Freshman Amaya Stewart leads with 13.3 points per game; sophomores Delanie Hill (12.0) and Martina Borrellas (10.3) follow. Borrellas leads the team on the boards with 7.0 rebounds per game. 

The Saints have started the year 0-4 with games against Colgate, UMass, Army, and Dartmouth. Francesca Schiro leads the team with 17.0 points per game while Kaiya Rain Tucker leads with 5.3 rebounds per game.

UAlbany holds the lead in the all-time series, 14-12. Under head coach Colleen Mullen, the Great Danes are 3-2 against the Saints. Siena won the most recent game at the UHY Center in December 2024 breaking a three-game win streak for UAlbany.

Friday, November 21

The Albany Cup returns for the start of a renewed contract between UAlbany and Siena with the Great Danes having hoisted the cup the previous two seasons with a 70-60 win in 2024-25 and 86-51 win in 2022-23. Over the past 10 meetings, UAlbany leads the series 7-3.

The Saints are 2-1 entering the week and host Colgate Monday, Nov. 17 before the Albany Cup.  Siena is averaging 70.0 points, 25.0 field goals, 4.0 three's, 16.0 free throws,, 37.7 rebounds, 13.7 assists, 11.7 turnovers, 9.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. they are led by Gavin Duty with 55 points shooting 20-39 (.513%) from the field and 3-6 (.500%) from three point range. Duty also leads the Saints with 18.3 rebounds per game. Brendan Coyle leads Siena in made three's at 7-20 (.359%).
