Volleyball Falls in Tight Four-Set Battle at Binghamton

LOCATION: Events Center – Vestal, N.Y.

SCORE: Binghamton 3, UAlbany 1 (25-22, 27-25, 19-25, 26-24)

RECORD: UAlbany 12-10, 5-3 America East | Binghamton 10-12, 4-3 America East

SHORT STORY: UAlbany volleyball came up just short in a highly competitive four-set match at Binghamton on Friday night.

COACH JOSH PICKARD: "Going on the road in our conference is tough, and today was no different. They put us in difficult situations, and we had trouble stringing multiple points together tonight."

KEY STATS

  • Graduate opposite Kendall Harris totaled 11 kills on .269 hitting with four blocks.

  • Sophomore setter Maria Olga Siapani dished out 51 assists, adding 14 digs, 5 kills, and 3 blocks.

  • Graduate outside hitter Shynelle Woroniuk recorded a match-high 18 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces.

  • Redshirt-junior middle blocker Gabriella Karman hit .400 with 11 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces.

  • Senior outside hitter Anna Myhal contributed 12 kills on .360 hitting, along with 17 digs and 4 blocks.

  • Senior middle blocker Tori Wilson hit .353 with 7 kills and 5 blocks.

  • Sophomore defensive specialist Kasia Barletta led the back row with 12 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Binghamton edged UAlbany 25-22 in the opening set despite the Great Danes' .325 hitting percentage.

  • Late kills from Harris and Myhal kept it close, but the Bearcats' defense held off the late push.

  • The second set was another back-and-forth battle, featuring eight ties and four lead changes. 

  • UAlbany had a late set point at 24-23 before Binghamton rallied to steal it 27-25.

  • UAlbany answered in the third, hitting .250 behind Karman and Woroniuk to take a 25-19 win. 

  • The Danes controlled the tempo early, holding Binghamton to .074 hitting in the frame.

  • In the fourth, Binghamton closed out the match 26-24 despite multiple UAlbany comebacks fueled by Siapani's setting and a 3-0 block run from Wilson and Harris.
