Volleyball Pushes New Hampshire to Five on the Road

SHORT STORY: UAlbany came out strong in the opening set and forced a fifth behind timely swings from Kendall Harris and Tori Wilson, but New Hampshire held off the Great Danes late in Durham.

COACH JOSH PICKARD: "We battled but couldn't overcome a couple of plays. I thought we distributed the ball well and, unfortunately, got a bit timid at times with our swings. "

  • Graduate opposite Kendall Harris finished with 16 kills on .279 hitting, adding 4 blocks.

  • Graduate outside hitter Shynelle Woroniuk totaled 19 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces.

  • Senior middle blocker Tori Wilson tallied 15 kills on .429 hitting with 1 block.

  • Redshirt-junior middle blocker Gabriella Karman hit .545 with 6 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces.

  • Sophomore setter Maria Olga Siapani directed the offense with 50 assists and 26 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UAlbany opened with a 25-22 win in the first, using a late 5-0 run capped by a Tori Wilson kill to take the early lead.

  • New Hampshire responded in the second with steady serving runs and late kills to edge the Great Danes 25-23, evening the match.

  • The Wildcats carried momentum in the third, hitting .303 as a team to pull away 25-18 despite Kendall Harris' four kills in the frame.

  • UAlbany answered in the fourth, with Shynelle Woroniuk and Wilson combining for nine kills. 

  • A Gabriella Karman ace helped close the set 25-22 to force a fifth.

  • In the deciding frame, the Great Danes trailed 8-7 at the switch but New Hampshire used a 4-1 surge late to earn the 15-11 win.
