Men’s Basketball Awaits America East Home Opener

United Way $5 Kids Day

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men's basketball team starts America East play on Saturday, January 4 when it hosts UMass Lowell at 4:00 p.m. in the Broadview Center for United Way $5 Kids Day.

Leading the Pack

The River Hawks are coming off a 101-39 win against Division III Emerson on Monday, December 30. This season UMass Lowell is averaging 85.1 points, 29.5 field goals, 7.1 threes, 19.1 free throws, 37.7 rebounds, 16.6 assists, 13.7 turnovers, 6.3 steals, and 4.5 blocks per game.
 
Quinton Mincey currently leads UMass Lowell with 234 points in 15 games for an average of 15.6. he's shooting 81-164 (.494%) from the field and 22057 (.386%) beyond the arc. He's spent an overall time of 494 minutes on the court for an average of 33.0 per game.

Max Brooks is the River Hawks leader in rebounds with 119 where in 15 games played, he's averaging 7.9. alongside a team-high 39 blocked shots. He is second on the team in scoring behind Mincey with 15.3 points per game thanks to shooting 94-128 (.734%) from the field while just 0-2 from three range.
 
Freshman Martin Somerville has picked up the most steals of any River Hawk with 21 while recording 129 points in 15 games played averaging 13.5 ppg and shooting 60-129 (.465%) and 35-74 (.473%) from the three.

February 24, 2024 | Sebastian Thomas scored 42 points, breaking the UAlbany single-game scoring record previously set by Cameron Healy (41 points, 2020), but ultimately fell to UMass Lowell on the road, 104-95. Thomas' 42 points paced all scorers. He went 15-28 from the field, 4-9 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe. He added two rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 40 minutes of action. Amar'e Marshall dropped 23 points on 8-15 shooting, adding three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Aaron Reddish led the team in rebounds with six. UAlbany shot 46.8% (36-77) from the field and 38.1% (8-21) from three. UMass Lowell shot 58.2% (32-55) from the field and 26.7% (4-15) from three. UMass Lowell won the rebounding war, 43-27. UAlbany finished with nine turnovers, UMass Lowell finished with 17.
 
Since 2014, The Great Danes are 13-9 against UMass Lowell while going 4-4 with the River Hawks since 2020-21.
 
Last Time Out
December 29, 2024 | The UAlbany men's basketball team hosted Stony Brook for the first time since the Seawolves left for the CAA, where the Great Danes picked up the 77-70 victory in the renewed rivalry. Three Great Danes recorded double-digit points from Justin Neely (16), Amar'e Marshall (15), and Kacper Klaczek (10). Neely shot 5-7 (71.4%) from the field while going 6-7 (85.7%) at the free throw line while also leading the Great Danes in rebounds with nine (1 off – 8 def). Marshall led the Great Danes with four assists, shooting 3-6 (50.0%) beyond the arch. Klaczek tallied a season-best three blocks against the Seawolves. DeMarr Langford Jr. and Byron Joshua each recorded two steals.
 
Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops
Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops is officially back for a third season! Coaches Dwayne Killings and Colleen Mullen, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Charlie Voelker and Dan Bahl every Monday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'. 
 
Fans are invited to come out to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Killings, Coach Mullen, student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. Food and drink specials will be available every week as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday. 
 
Postgame Show
The UAlbany Basketball Postgame Show returns this season to 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio. The show will begin immediately following all games, home and away, for fans to listen to as they commute home or tune in from a distance.
 
The show is set to run for 30 minutes following the final buzzer on 104.5 The Team. Fans will hear initial reactions and a game recap to start the segment followed by interviews with the team. Coach Dwayne Killings and select student-athletes will join ESPN Radio's Rodger Wyland and Michael Johnson Jr. to break down the contest, give insights, opinions, and responses, and discuss the team's next matchup.
 
Fans can tune in to ESPN Radio 104.5 the Team by turning the dial on their radio or by streaming on their computers or smartphones.
