SHORT STORY: With a steady rate of about one goal per quarter, the Great Danes tallied their first win of the season, a shutout, against Ohio, Sunday afternoon.

COACH PHIL SYKES: "I'm very proud of the team effort today. We were strong mentally throughout and played with good discipline."
 
KEY STATS
  • Senior Alison Smisdom recorded her first hat trick of the year. It was the fifth of her collegiate career.
  • Freshman Eva Jenniskens scored her first career goal.
  • Senior Floor de Ruiter and sophomore Mara Küskes led with two assists each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Not even five minutes into the game and UAlbany was on the board.
  • Redirecting a penalty-corner shot, Eva Jenniskens tipped the ball into the net at 4:25 with an assist from Floor de Ruiter.
  • Just over a minute into the second quarter, Alison Smisdom scored the first of her three goals.
  • During a penalty corner, Smisdom's direct shot was assisted by senior Blanca Orsola (stick stop) and Mara Küskes (insert).
  • Smisdom completed her hat trick in the third quarter.
  • In the second double-assisted goal of the game, graduate student Charlotte Triggs (stick stop) and Küskes (insert) assisted Smisdom's second goal.
  • Just two minutes later, with 1:33 on the clock, Smisdom and de Ruiter combined for a give-and-go goal during a penalty corner.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes return home to host Merrimack (Sept. 6) and Cornell (Sept. 8).
