Men's Soccer Journeys South to Face the Red Storm

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany men's soccer program (1-2-0, 0-0 America East) will manage to move back into the .500 mark, taking on the St. John's Red Storm (1-1-1, 0-0 Big East) Sunday, September 1st.

Closing out the Road Trip
After opening the 2024 season on the road with a win over Niagara (3-2), the Great Danes have since lost their two most previous contests against LIU (0-1) and No.20 Seton Hall (1-2). In the team's first three matches of the season, they have been outscored 4-5 keeping every match to within one goal. 
 
Timo Jansen, Ivar Orri Gissurarson and Pedro Lucas of the Great Danes' have all started out the season leading the team with one goal each along with a team goal being awarded to the Purple and Gold. Jansen leads UAlbany with three points heading into Sunday's contest against the Red Storm. In the shots category Ander Castillo's nine shots with five being targeted on goal are a team high three matches into the season.
 
Goalie Time
Daniel Shannon (1-1) in every match to open the 2024 campaign. He has spent a total time of 218:51 in net while making 14 saves facing a total of 38 shots faced allowing just four goals for 1.67 goals against average and 0.750 save percentage. Against Seton Hall, Parker Kump (0-1) was given a chance to show the Purple and Golds depth in goal as he spent 51:09 on the field where in eight shots faced, he made one save while allowing one goal off a late penalty kick.
 
Looking at the Red Storm:
St. John's 2024 journey has since begun with a loss, tie and a win to put them at the .500 mark. in the Red Storms last match against Manhattan which resulted in a 2-1 St. John's win, Ba Macoumba and Miguel Diaz each scored a goal to give the Jaspers their first victory of the season. Diaz currently leads the team with four points from two goals while both Cameron Boumsong and Thomas Lamille have each connected for one assist. Taking many chances, Macoumba is also the team's leader in shots and shots on goal with five. Alex McLachlan has been the starting keep for St. John's as he's recorded six saves with four goals against from 22 shots faced for a total time of 270:00, goals against average of 1.33 and 0.600 save percentage.
 
Looking back
The last time the Great Danes and Red Storms went up against one another, St. John's managed to take the 3-0 victory while at home. In net for UAlbany, Carlos Tofern came away with five saves with three goals against. St. John's outplayed the Purple and Gold that day as they managed to come away with 17 shots, nine shots on goal and three goals from four assists.
