Manhattan Takes Game Two

Score: Manhattan 7, UAlbany 3

Location: Varsity Field – Albany, N.Y.

Records: UAlbany (13-31, 8-12 America East) | Manhattan (19-28, 9-12 MAAC)

Short Story: The UAlbany baseball team fell to Manhattan, 7-3, in game two of the series despite strong defense from the infield.

Key Stat Lines
Head Coach Jon Mueller: "A disappointing finish, I thought we actually played the best defensive game we've played all year. There were a bunch of tremendous plays made by our infield. But too many fly balls and weak contact early in counts today. We had a couple of opportunities but give credit to Manhattan, every time we scored they answered. Look forward to the last game of the series tomorrow.

How it Happened:
  • Matthew Mariano started on the bump for the Great Danes. John Kwiatkoski got the start for the Jaspers.
  • Manhattan started the scoring in the first with Chase Swain slugging a triple to left center to drive in a run. Giving the Jaspers an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Answering back in the second, Luke Myers hit a single through the left side to drive in Levi McAllister, tying the contest at 1-1.
  • With a runner on second in the top of fourth, Vincent Davis launched a two-run home run, giving Manhattan a 3-1 lead.
  • With two runners on in the fifth, Swain hit a single to left center to score a run. Daniel Perez followed up with an RBI single to bring in an insurance run, making it 5-1.

  • In the bottom of the seventh, Cooper Loyal started the inning with a walk. Loyal scored on a Luke Filippi single to right center, reducing the deficit to 5-2.
