SHORT STORY: The Great Danes worked for two eight-run victories to sweep UMass Lowell in a midweek doubleheader, Tuesday.

GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 9, UMass Lowell (5 innings)
KEY STATS
- Graduate student Maddi Petrella led with a 100% batting average from three hits.
- Graduate student Wendi Hammond tallied a first-at-bat grand slam to total four RBI.
- Redshirt-junior Victoria Vilarchao and Petrella followed with two RBI each.
- Eight different Great Danes contributed to the score with at least one run.
- Nine different Great Danes put a hit on the scoreboard.
- On defense, Hammond pitched a complete game with three strikeouts in five innings. She allowed just three hits and walked two batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two consecutive singles from Maddi Petrella and senior Jordan Nastos, Victoria Vilarchao was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded for an RBI.
- On the third pitch, Wendi Hammond slammed the ball over the center field fence for her first career grand slam.
- With three consecutive outs in the bottom of the first and the second, the Great Danes held their 5-0 lead.
- Vilarchao notched her second RBI with a deep double that drove in Petrella from first base in the top of the third.
- Sophomore Sara Anderson started the fourth inning with a single before running home off a throwing error during a bunted single from graduate student Caitlyn Mitros.
- Loading the bases once again, Petrella singled deep into right-center field to allow Mitros and Petty to score what proved to be the final Great Dane runs.
- The River Hawks got themselves out of a bases-loaded situation in the top of the fifth as the pitcher struck out the last batter.
- UMass Lowell scored one run in the bottom of the fifth but it was not enough to allow the game to continue and it ended after five innings, 9-1.

SCORE: UAlbany 8, UMass Lowell 0
KEY STATS
- Victoria Vilarchao led from the batter's box with three RBI from two home runs.
- Freshman Mary Kate Murray followed with two RBI.
- Jordan Nastos tallied a team-high three hits.
- Sophomore Sara Anderson tied Vilarchao with two hits off four at bats.
- Redshirt-junior Kate Powers pitched her third complete game shutout. Pitching five strikeouts, she allowed just one hit and two walks in seven innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Nastos slashed the first hit of the game in the top of the second.
- Kate Powers struck out the first two batters of the bottom of the second.
- Nastos added a single in the top of the fourth.
- The Great Danes broke the scoring barrier and earned two runs in the fifth inning.
- Sara Anderson and Morgan Petty each hit a single to the left side of the field to get on base.
- Mary Kate Murray slammed a ball deep into center field to bring home both runners - Anderson from second and Petty from first.
- UAlbany advanced their lead to seven before the end of the sixth inning.
- Nastos opened the inning with her third hit to get on base.
- Victoria Vilarchao followed with a home run over the right-center fence to make it a 4-0 advantage for the Great Danes.
- With a runner on first, Caitlyn Mitros grounded out to earn an RBI and give UAlbany a 5-0 lead.
- After sophomore Kasey Conn scored on a throwing error while Petty was stealing a base, a single from Petrella sent Petty home for the seventh Great Dane run.
- Vilarchao opened the seventh inning with a solo home run over the left-field fence.
- To hold their eight-run lead, the Great Dane defense notched a double play in the bottom of the eighth.
NEXT: UAlbany will continue on the road with a three-game weekend series at Bryant (Apr. 13-14).
