Softball Adds Midweek Victory

SHORT STORY: Graduate student Caitlyn Mitros led with four RBI as the Great Danes defeated CCSU, Thursday.

  • Caitlyn Mitros totaled four RBI from two hits - one single and one double.
  • Sophomore Deanna Grahek tallied two hits in three at bats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CCSU opened the game with a single on the third pitch.
  • Kate Powers left the Blue Devil on base with two consecutive strikeouts.
  • Morgan Petty got on base with the first UAlbany hit in the bottom of the first.
  • CCSU took a 1-0 lead after the top of the second.
  • With Deanna Grahek on third, Kasey Conn earned an RBI to tie the score. Conn advanced to third on an error and the Great Danes continued with a runner in scoring position.
  • Caitlyn Mitros followed with an RBI single and UAlbany took a 2-1 lead after two innings of action.
  • After a scoreless third inning, the Great Danes added four runs in the fourth.
  • Sophomore Sara Anderson started the inning with a single.
  • Loading the bases, Mitros doubled through the left side to bring all three baserunners home.
  • Mitros scored the fourth run of the inning off a single from Maddi Petrella.
  • Grahek added a Great Dane run in the fifth inning.
  • Victoria Vilarchao scored what proved to be the team's final run of the game with a first-pitch home run. Pinch-hitting for Petty, she slammed the ball over the right-center field fence.
  • The Blue Devils closed the scoring gap in the top of the seventh with the Great Danes stuck it out for an 8-2 win.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will head to UMBC for a three-game weekend series in Baltimore (Apr. 27-28).
