SHORT STORY: The Great Danes opened strong and continued to play with offensive prowess during a rainy game, Thursday.

WEATHER NOTE: The game was called due to rain during the top of the seventh. The Great Danes left one runner on base with two outs.
KEY STATS
- Graduate student Morgan Petty went 4-5 at the plate with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
- Freshman Mary Kate Murray was the only Great Dane with multiple RBI, having hit a two-run homer.
- Graduate student Maddi Petrella added a double.
- Six different Great Danes crossed home for a run with two - senior Jordan Nastos and graduate student Caitlyn Mitros - earning two each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morgan Petty opened the hitting with a single up the middle in the first inning.
- Mary Kate Murray followed with a home run over the left-center field fence to give the Great Danes a 2-0 lead.
- The Friars tallied a hit with their first batter but a double play from the Great Dane defense halted the advance.
- After scoreless second and third innings, Providence cut UAlbany's lead in half in the fourth.
- The Great Danes answered with three runs in the fifth inning.
- With Caitlyn Mitros on base, Maddi Petrella slammed a double to center field for an RBI. Petrella then took advantage of a fielding error to run home from second.
- Jordan Nastos ran home during a rundown as sophomore Sara Anderson was caught stealing.
- Petty added an RBI single for the Great Danes' 6-1 advantage in the sixth inning.
- After getting on base with a single in the top of the seventh, Nastos made her way around the bases and scored a second run.
- The rain was coming down harder and caused a 10-minute rain delay before action returned.
- UAlbany added an eighth run off a fielding error before loading the bases. Petty took advantage of the base runners and hit a three-run double to make it an 11-1 lead for the Great Danes.
- With a full count on Murray, the umpires called the game for rain. UAlbany left a baserunner on with two outs.
NEXT: The Great Danes are set to return home for a three-game conference series against Binghamton. With a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 20), the series will conclude on Sunday (Apr. 21).
