How it Happened
- The University at Albany women's lacrosse program returned home to John Fallon Field on Saturday after playing its last two on the road and continued America East play with a showdown against Bryant. The Bulldogs were 7-3 overall, the second-best overall record in the America East, and 1-0 in their sole conference game so far.
- Last season's game between the Great Danes and Bulldogs was one of the closest on UAlbany's schedule, with the Great Danes pulling out an 11-10 victory in Smithfield. The victory clinched UAlbany's first outright America East regular-season title, and featured six ties and four lead changes, with neither team leading by more than two goals for the duration.
- Bryant's roster features the top goal-scorer in the America East, Kenna Kaut, who had tallied 44 goals in the Bulldogs' 10 games, and the second-leading player in assists, Peyton Woodward, with 23. For UAlbany, Katie Pascale held the conference lead in total points, 53, and assists, 25.
- The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four-and-a-half minutes with two goals from Kaut. Courtney Rowe put UAlbany on the board for the first time with 6:07 remaining in the first quarter, speeding through Bryant's defense for an unassisted score.
- Grace McCauley scored her first of six goals on the day off a setup from Katie Pascale to tie the game at two just 80 seconds later. Kaut scored again, her third, just 13 seconds after McCauley's goal, but put Bryant back on top.
- Bryant scored to close the first quarter, with 25 seconds on the clock, to take a 4-2 lead into the second. A third-straight goal to open the new quarter gave the Bulldogs a three-goal lead.
- McCauley ended Bryant's run on a free-position goal with 9:34 before halftime. The teams alternated the next three goals to end the half, leading to a three-goal, 7-4 advantage for the Bulldogs at halftime.Â
- Bryant hat outshot UAlbany 19-12 over the first 30 minutes, and 9-3 in the second quarter. Bryant also won seven of eight ground balls in the first quarter, and 13 of 20 in the first half. Grace Cincebox kept the Great Danes in striking distance, recording seven first-half saves.
- In last season's game, Pascale recorded six assists, but was shut out of scoring on 11 shots. Her first shot on Saturday ricocheted off the crossbar. After recording zero goals and just one assist in the first half, Pascale finally broke through just over two minutes after halftime with her first of three goals.
- Pascale assisted on McCauley's third goal just 45 seconds later to close UAlbany within one. Kaut notched her fifth with 9:50 on the clock in the third to end UAlbany's burst, but McCauley scored again to kick off a 4-0 run for the Great Danes. Kloey Roos tied the game at eight and Pascale gave UAlbany the lead, 9-8, for the final goal of the third quarter.
- McCauley opened the fourth converting a free-position attempt to put UAlbany ahead by two. Bryant scored to close within one before Roos and Paisley Cook scored just over a minute apart to put UAlbany up by three.
- Kaut scored her sixth goal of the game, and her 50th of the season, with 3:20 remaining to close Bryant within two. Pascale and McCauley scored back-to-back just 65 seconds apart to put UAlbany up four, the Great Danes' largest lead of the day. Bryant added one final goal in the last minute to bring the final score to 14-11 in favor of UAlbany.
- The Great Danes outscored Bryant 10-4 in the second half, and 5-1 in the third quarter. Pascale recorded six of her seven total points after halftime. UAlbany outdrew Bryant 11-5 after halftime, including 6-1 in the third, and outshot the Bulldogs 21-15 over the final 30 minutes.Â
Next: UAlbany visits UMBC on April 6.
