Women's Basketball Readies for WNIT

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • Working on defense throughout the entire season, the Great Danes lead the nation while holding their opponents to an average of 50.9 points per game.
  • With an "offense comes from defense" mentality, UAlbany adds a top-15 national ranking with 37.20% shooting accuracy from three.
  • At the conclusion of the regular season, the Great Danes held a 24-5 record with 13 America East wins. With an AE quarterfinal win, UAlbany made it 25 wins on the season.
  • Seeing just two losses during non-conference play, UAlbany went undefeated in December. The Great Danes saw victories over Merrimack (11.6), Sarah Lawrence (11.13), St. Bonaventure (11.16), Cornell (11.22), Siena (12.2), CCSU (12.6), Marist (12.9), Dartmouth (12.12), Stonehill (12.16), UMass (12.20) and Navy (12.30) with losses to Fordham (11.10) and Stanford (11.26) throughout the first half of the season.
  • Adding just three losses during conference play, UAlbany swept the series against Bryant, NJIT, Binghamton, UMass Lowell, UMBC, and New Hampshire. 
  • The Great Danes split the series against Maine and fell in both contests to Vermont.
  • Kayla Cooper leads the Great Danes with 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. The guard also owns a team-high 45 steals.
  • Following Cooper with 7.1 rebounds per game, Deja Evans totals a team-high 44 blocks.
  • Sarah Karpell is the team's playmaker with 96 assists.
 
HAPPY AT HOME
  • The Great Danes finished the 2023-24 home season with a 14-2 record at their venue.
  • After a record-breaking home opener against Sarah Lawrence at the "home away from home" Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium, UAlbany defeated 13 opponents at Broadview Center.
  • The Great Danes have lost just four games at home since the start of the 2021-22 season.
  • Going undefeated at home in non-conference play, Maine took the second-to-last regular-season home game of the 2021-22 season.
  • Flipping the book for the 2022-23 season, UAlbany fell to Colgate and Cornell at "home" (Saint Rose and HVCC, respectively) while Broadview Center underwent its transformational overhaul.
  • The Great Danes fell in their first home loss this season to Vermont on February 1. The Catamounts followed with the AE semifinal win on March 11.
 
AUTOMATIC SHOOTING
  • UAlbany is ranked 13th in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.372).
  • The Great Danes lead the America East in nearly all shooting categories: scoring defense (50.9), scoring margin (10.4), field goal defense (.370), three-point field goal percentage (.372), and three-point field goal defense (.270).

MILESTONE WATCH
  • Helene Haegerstrand is one block away from recording her 100th career block.
  • Sarah Karpell is four assists away from recording her 100th of the season. This would be the second time in her career that she has reached this milestone. 

2024 POSTSEASON AWARDS
ABOUT COLGATE
  • The Raiders are 18-13 on the season with a 10-8 conference record.
  • Having won their first three contests of the season, Colgate fell twice at the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 24-26).
  • After going back and forth with results, the Raiders finished the non-conference with two wins to earn an 8-5 record.
  • The Raiders started conference action with four consecutive wins over Loyola (1/3), Navy (1/6), Lafayette (1/10), and Bucknell (1/13).
  • After a seven-game losing streak, Colgate closed out the regular season series with sweeps over Holy Cross, Bucknell, and Lafayette. 
  • Within a late-season five-game win streak, the Raiders notched a regular-season split against American. Overall, they finished with additional splits against Boston U, Loyola, and Navy while falling in both games to Lehigh and Army.
  • In the Patriot League Championship Tournament, Colgate beat seventh-seeded Navy in the quarterfinals and fell to third-seeded Boston University in the semifinals.
  • Three Raiders lead with point averages in the double-digits - Taylor Golembiewski (12.1), Alexa Brodie (10.4), and Tiasia McMillan (10.3).
  • Sophia Diehl leads on defense with 6.3 rebounds per game.
  • McMillan owns a team-high 27 blocks.
  • Madison Schiller leads the team in transition with 38 steals and 82 assists. Golembiewski is close behind with 36 steals.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE RAIDERS
  • Colgate leads the series, 9-5.
  • Head coach Colleen Mullen is 1-1 against the Raiders during her time as head coach.
  • Most recently, Colgate earned a win over UAlbany at the College of Saint Rose (November 19, 2022).
  • During the season prior (2021-22), the Great Daes defeated the Raiders in Hamilton (December 5, 2021).
 
SHARED OPPONENTS
  • During the 2023-24 season, the Raiders and the Great Danes competed against many of the same opponents.
  • Facing two America East opponents, Colgate beat UMBC, 57-51, on November 11 and UMass Lowell, 65-45, on December 29.
  • UAlbany swept the regular-season series against both UMBC and UMass Lowell. Three of those contests were double-digit point victories with one two-point victory over UMBC.
  • The Raiders split the series against Navy while the Great Danes defeated the Mids in their final game of the non-conference season.
  • Outside of each conference, both teams also competed against CCSU, St. Bonaventure, and Cornell. Colgate beat SBU and Cornell but fell to CCSU. UAlbany defeated all three teams with a double-digit point margin.

  • UAlbany will continue its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill for the third consecutive year.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Dan Bahl every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Killings, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
