Key Stat Lines
Head Coach Scott Marr"I was super proud of our effort. Defensively, to hold a Virginia team of that caliber to three first half goals, was amazing. Kudos to John Maloney and Steven Kunz for having our guys ready to play. All over the field, our actions were intentional. Silas Richmond and Jake Piseno were as good as I have seen out of a UAlbany player in some time. I thought Jake was the best player on the field and that was echoed by Lars Tiffany and the Virginia coaching staff. Obviously, need to find a way to match their energy in the third quarter. But, we didn't stop playing until final whistle. Now we need to regroup and get ready for Vermont!"

How it Happened:
  • The game started with two big saves from UAlbany freshman keeper Landon Whitney, keeping Virginia off the board to begin the contest.
  • Silas Richmond had a highlight reel goal, going behind the back, to open the scoring in the first.
  • Richmond tallied his second goal two minutes later on a feed from Ryan Doherty to put the Great Danes up 2-0 midway through the first quarter.
  • The first quarter hat trick from Richmond was completed less than 10 minutes into the game, notching his third score of the game on a helper from Chris Crapanzano with 5:12 on the clock.
  • The Cavaliers responded with their first of the afternoon with three minutes remaining in the first off the stick of Payton Cormier.
  • Virginia made it 3-2 20 seconds into the second quarter on a fast-break goal from Cormier, his second of the game.
  • The score became 3-3 with just 1:29 remaining in the first half thanks to Virginia's Thomas Mencke. It would be the only goal scored in the second quarter.
  • UAlbany's Whitney made nine saves in the first half alone, allowing just the three goals. Virginia out-shot UAlbany 21-17 in the front half of the game.
  • The Cavaliers came out of the locker room hot, scoring three goals in the first three minutes. McCabe Millon notched his first of the afternoon to start the second half, Connor Shellenberger scored his first less than a minute later, and Millon struck again 60 seconds after that to make it 6-3 early in the third.
  • Chris Crapanzano stopped the bleeding for the Great Danes, scoring his sixth of the year to bring the score to 6-4.
  • Virginia answered less than two minutes later when Millon completed his hat trick to put the Cavaliers lead back to three. He made it four goals shortly after on a feed from Shellenberger, making it 8-4.
  • Cormier completed his hat trick with 7:47 remaining to push the score to 9-4 in Virginia's favor. A minute later, Millon made it 10-4 with his fourth.
  • With 4:07 remaining in the third, Ben Wayer scored for Virginia to bring the score to 11-4. With just three seconds remaining, Cormier made it 12-4.
  • Virgina scored two more goals to open the fourth before Richmond broke the UAlbany drought, scoring his fourth of the day – this one unassisted.
  • Virginia didn't waste any time in responding, scoring 30 seconds later to push the lead back to 10, 15-5.
  • Richmond notched his fifth of the game with 5:25 remining, tying his single-game career high.
  • Thomas Mencke made it 16-6 for Virginia with 3:38 left in the game.
  • Jake Piseno scored his first of the day and fourth of the year on a feed from Ben Wimmer from behind the net with 2:14 remaining, kicking off a four-goal run for the Great Danes. Richmond then scored two-straight to push his single-game career high to seven goals before Piseno notched his second of the afternoon with 37 on the clock.
