HOW IT HAPPENED
- NC State started strong with nine runs in the first inning.
- The Great Dane defense responded with three outs in three batters in the second inning.
- The Wolfpack added three runs off three hits in the bottom of the third.
- Jordan Nastos hit the first UAlbany double of the season in the top of the fourth inning.
- Maddi Petrella followed with a single to drive in Nastos and put the Great Danes on the board.
- NCSU added what proved to be the final run in the bottom of the fourth.

KEY STATS
- Freshman Mary Kate Murray went 3-4 at the plate. With three hits, including one double, she tallied two RBI.
- Maddi Petrella led with three RBI from two hits, including the first Great Dane home run of the season.
- Sophomore Deanna Grahek drove in two RBI from one double.
- Eight of the nine in the batting lineup tallied at least one hit.
- With five doubles as a team, graduate students Wendi Hammond and Morgan Petty each added one double.
- Pitching 6.1 innings, a complete game, Hammond struck out six batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes started strong with a single from Jordan Nastos followed by an RBI double from Morgan Petty before a home run from Maddi Petrella.
- Up 3-0, UAlbany tallied three consecutive outs to hold the lead through the end of the first inning.
- As the Great Danes were unable to get a hit through the following two innings, the Gaels tied the score at three.
- Grabbing half of her strikeouts, all three outs in the bottom of the third were strikeouts from Wendi Hammond.
- With three consecutive hits in the top of the fourth - Sara Anderson, Mary Kate Murray, and Deanna Grahek - UAlbany took a two-run lead with Grahek's two-RBI double.
- A sacrifice bunt from junior Caitlyn Frederick made it a 6-3 game headed into the bottom of the fourth.
- Iona caught up and took the lead with five runs before the end of the fourth.
- Once again, the Great Danes answered with three runs to take a 9-8 lead.
- Notching two doubles in the fifth, Petrella with one RBI and Murray with two RBI, the Great Danes answered with three runs to take a 9-8 lead after the top of the fifth.
- The Gaels tied the score in the bottom of the inning but a double-play and a fly ball sent the Great Danes back to the dugout for the sixth inning.
- Both teams tallied a hit in the sixth but neither were able to take advantage of the baserunner.
- Murray totaled her final hit in the top of the seventh but was left on base.
- Iona closed the game with a three-run home run to make the final score 12-9.
NEXT: The Great Danes will close the Wolfpack Classic with a morning game against Iona on Sunday.
