Men’s Basketball Late Comeback vs Syracuse Not Enough

Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball program headed to Syracuse, falling to the Orange following a late Great Danes comeback.
 
Coach Dwayne Killings: "We found a group of guys that wanted to compete the right way and all of a sudden, we crack into the lead…we trapped some which I thought was good for us and I thought we competed…sometimes you've just got to play with more aggression."
 
Key Stat Lines:
  • Justin Neely recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds (6 off – 5 def).
  • Amar'e Marshall led the Great Danes with 18 points, and five assists.
  • DeMarr Langford Jr. shot 6-9 for 13 points in a team high 34 minutes on the court.
  • Amir Lindsey recorded three made threes for the most of any Great Dane.
  •  Collectively, UAlbany shot 32-70 (45.7%) from the field, 10-28 (35.7%) beyond the arc, and 11-19 (57.9%) at the free throw line.
 
How it Happened:
  • Jyare Davis of the Orange opened the game with a layup
  • Amar'e Marshall answered back at 19:10 to make it a 2-2.
  • UAlbany would take a 7-2 lead thanks to a three from Kheni Briggs at 18:45.
  • Syracuse would answer back with four unanswered point to make it an 8-7 UAlbany lead with 16:12 to play.
  • The Great Danes and Orange would exchange points with tied a 12-12 with 13:48 remaining in the half.
  • As the Orange jumped ahead 14-12, DeMarr Langford Jr. would drive to the basket for a layup thanks to an assist from Marshall to make it a 14-14 game at 12:34 in the half.
  • Syracuse would jump ahead 25-16 at the 9:10 mark.
  • The Great Danes would make it a 40-32 contest following a three from Amir Lindsey off an assist from Briggs with 3:16 to play in the half.
  • Briggs would record UAlbany's final score of the half at 0:57 before the Orange would score the final five point of the first half to make it a 47-34 Orange lead.
  • UAlbany and Syracuse traded baskets to start the second half as the Orange led 55-40 with 16:12 to play; Briggs would highlight for the Great Danes with four points.
  • A 7-1 run by the Orange would extend their lead 62-41 with 14:03 remaining in the half.
  • A 10-3 run by the Great Danes would make it a 69-52 Orange lead with just over 10-minute to play.
  • Outscoring the Orange 7-4 over the course of the next two minutes saw the Orange stay ahead 76-59 with 7:55 to go.
  • Powered by four points from DeMarr Langford Jr., the Great Danes 12-5 would cut their deficit to 11 points at 82-71 with 5:00 on the clock.
  • Four more points from Justin Neely would keep the Purple and Gold in the contest trailing by 13, 90-77.
  • The Great Danes would come back to within 11 points with 1:21 to play before the Orange would score the final six points of the contest and walk away with the 102-85 win.
 
UP NEXT: UAlbany's men's basketball will return to the Broadview Center on Saturday, December 14, when they host Drexel University at 7:00 pm. Saturdays game will be the team's Toy's for Tots game.
