MANAHAWKIN, N.J. - Two UAlbany field hockey seniors, Alison Smisom and Floor de Ruiter, have been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) Division I Senior Team, announced Thursday.
 
The NFHCA's honor reflects not only their performances throughout the season but also their enduring impact on and off the field. The organization announced the honor for 38 total Division I student-athletes. Hailing from 32 different institutions, Smisdom and de Ruiter make UAlbany one of just seven universities with two honorees. 
 
Thanks to generous NFHCA dono Karren Mann, each 2024 senior team selectee will receive a personalized engraved award. 
 
Alison Smisdom is fresh off her third consecutive America East Midfielder of the Year award. A midfielder from Antwerp, Belgium, she finished the season ranked fourth in the nation with 2.42 points per game and 1.05 goals per game, a feat she achieved for the second year in a row. In addition to her offensive prowess, Smisdom is ranked seventh in the nation with seven defensive saves.
 
Floor de Ruiter stepped up on the stats sheet during her 2024 season. A beast on the field since the moment she arrived at UAlbany, she finished her final season with the Great Danes ranked in the nation with a top-five assists per game (.74) mark. In addition to assists, the Noordwijk, The Netherlands native finished ranked in points per game (tied for 51st).
