Short Story: The University at Albany football team fell at home to CAA rival New Hampshire Saturday afternoon by a score of 31-14.
Key Stat Lines
- Quarterback Myles Burkett threw for 47 yards on seven completions, but exited the game late in the second quarter.
- Graduate Trey Lindsey took over for Burkett and threw for 117 yards and a touchdown, rushing one in as well for his first collegiate score.
- MarQeese Dietz led the team with six receptions for 49 yards.
- Jojo Uga led the running backs with 33 yards and averaged five and a half yards per carry
- On defense, Cam Stodghill and Dasean Dixon both led the team with 1.0 sack each.
- Jack Iuliano and Paris Smiley led the team with six tackles each. Iuliano also led UAlbany with two TFLs.
Head Coach Greg Gattuso: "As Yogi Berra once said, 'It's Deja Vu all over again.' We keep starting games poorly and need to dig ourselves out of holes and you can't play that way. No chance of winning."
How it Happened:
- New Hampshire scored on their first possession, connecting on an 86-yard touchdown pass from Seth Morgan to Caleb Burke on the second play of the drive to put them up 7-0.
- UNH made it 14-0 near the end of the first quarter when Wande Owens intercepted a pass at the 50-yard line and returned it all the way for the score.
- The Wildcats extended their lead with 13:32 left in the second quarter when Wande Owens capped off a four-play, 46-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Logan Tomlinson.
- With 5:27 left in the first half, the UNH defense forced a fumble, which they recovered, at the UAlbany 45-yard line.
- On the ensuing drive, the Wildcats pushed the lead to 24 after hitting a 40-yard field goal with 3:35 left in the half.
- Trey Lindsey entered the game at quarterback for the Great Danes with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
- UAlbany found the end zone with 9:56 left in the game when Lindsey capped a 15-play, 88-yard drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown – the first score of his collegiate career. The Great Danes went for two and were able to convert on a trick play that ended with a pitch to Faysal Aden, making the score 24-8.
- New Hampshire was able to answer back, putting together a 12-play, 70-yard drive that ended with a two-yard passing touchdown to Colby Ramshaw with 2:42 left in the game.
- UAlbany bounced back and scored a touchdown on a seven-yard pass to Faysal Aden. The PAT was no good, making it 31-14.
