Women's Basketball to Face Dartmouth

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany women's basketball team heads on the road for a game at Dartmouth.
 
Combined with the men's team for both UAlbany and Dartmouth, the women will play in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday (Nov. 13).

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • In the first game of the 2024-25 season, UAlbany defeated Rhode Island, 67-57, for head coach Colleen Mullen's 100th career win.
  • Graduate student Kayla Cooper was named America East Player of the Week after leading the team with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and two steals.
  • Graduate student Jess Tomasetti followed with 16 points, including her 100th career made-three-pointer.
  • To make it three with double-digit points, graduate student Lilly Phillips earned 10 points.
  • Hosting her twin and guarding her for most of the game, Phillips held Sophie Phillips, Rhode Island's best three-point shooter, to zero points (0-7 from the field, 0-6 from downtown).
  • The Great Danes return with five 2023-24 student-athletes - Kayla Cooper, Lilly Phillips, Abby Ray, Meghan Huerter, and Gabriela Falcão.
  • This offseason, UAlbany added nine student-athletes - five freshmen and four transfers.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Graduate student Kayla Cooper is just two blocks away from 50 career blocks.
  • Three Great Danes are nearing a milestone in assists - Jessica Tomasetti is working towards 200 career assists (four more) while Laycee Drake (16) and Kaci Donovan (13) are closing in on 100 career assists.
  • Donovan is 103 points away from joining the 1000-point club.
 
IN THE RECORD BOOK
  • Kayla Cooper is ranked in the record book in four different stats.
    • 6th - 1352 points
    • 7th - 12.6 points per game
    • 5th - 764 rebounds
    • T8th - 7.1 rebounds per game
  • In 2023-24, two Great Danes put up single-season numbers good enough to be ranked in program history.
    • Kayla Cooper
      • 7th - 509 points
      • 10th - 15.9 points per game
      • 8th - .528 field goal percentage
    • Meghan Huerter
      • 2nd - .459 three-point field goal percentage
 
WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • With 56 total points, including three first-place votes, the UAlbany women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the America East preseason poll.
  • The Great Danes trailed Maine, who finished with 60 points, including five first-place votes.
  • Returning stat leader Kayla Cooper was named to the preseason All-Conference Team after leading UAlbany on offense (15.9 points per game and a .530 field goal percentage) and on defense (7.2 rebounds per game and 46 steals).
 
ABOUT DARTMOUTH
  • The Big Green opened the season against Keene State on Friday (Nov. 8).
  • Dartmouth neared 100 points in the 98-47 decision against the Division III team.
  • Three student-athletes totaled double-digit points - Victoria Page (19), Zeynep Ozel (17), and Olivia Austin (12).
  • As a team, the Big Green notched 41 rebounds with no one athlete earning more than seven. All but two who saw time in the game, earned at least two rebounds with most tallying at least four.
  • Working as a team, Dartmouth totaled 30 assists. Ozel led with six while Alexandra Eldredge followed with five.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BIG GREEN
  • The Great Danes hold the lead in the series, 5-3.
  • UAlbany has won the last three contests to take and hold the series lead.
  • In the most recent home and away series, Colleen Mullen earned two wins over Dartmouth - both on the road (Dec. 6, 2022) and at home (Dec. 12, 2023). 
  • In 2022, the Great Danes earned a 73-45 victory in Hanover. UAlbany followed it in with a 68-57 win at Broadview Center in 2023.
 
DRIVE THE LANE WITH UALBANY HOOPS
  • UAlbany will continue its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill for the fourth consecutive year.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Dan Bahl and Michael Johnson Jr. every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Killings, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
 
AMERICA EAST STANDINGS
  • A week into the basketball season, the Great Danes and the Bulldogs are the only two teams left without a loss.
  • Bryant has won each of its first two games against Merrimack and Bridgewater State.
  • Binghamton and New Hampshire each have one loss with two wins.
  • Maine and Vermont are even with one win and one loss each.
  • NJIT and UMBC have lost two of their first three contests.
  • UMass Lowell rounds out the conference looking for their first win.
