BOSTON - The University at Albany women's basketball's
Deja Evans was named the America East Player and Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday.
A native of Conshohocken, Pa., Evans played a stand-out game against Navy. In one single game, the rookie totaled 26 points and 17 rebounds. The first America East player to achieve this feat against a Division I opponent this season, she is just the second AE student-athlete in five years to tally at least 25 points and 15 rebounds in one contest. The forward added two steals, two assists, and one block for the Great Danes.
The team's third and fourth, this is Evan's second and third weekly awards of the season. Her awards are preceded by two for the Great Danes: Rookie of the Week (
Deja Evans - 12.18) & Player of the Week (
Kayla Cooper - 12.11).
The Great Danes will open the conference season against Bryant on Thursday (Jan. 4).
