ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany men's soccer coach Trevor Gorman has announced the addition of 13 players ahead of the fall 2023 season.

"We are looking forward to the fall season and to the addition of these players to our program," said Gorman.  "A number of them joined us in January and have already fit in well, and we're confident those arriving in August will do the same.  We're excited to see the impact of this group of guys on our program this fall, and in the seasons to come."

Ander Castillo: FWD | 6-0 | 175lbs | Bilbao, Spain



Prior to UAlbany: Played two seasons at Medaille tallying 48 Goals; Named a 2022 United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American.

Gorman on Castillo: "Ander is a player with a tremendous goal scoring record.  He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and his instincts in the final third will make him a consistent threat."

Ethan Cook: DEF | 6-4 | 180lbs | Ballston Spa, N.Y.



Prior to UAlbany: Played for Blackwatch Premier.

Gorman on Cook: "Ethan has the attributes to be a fantastic modern defender.  He's confident on the ball, has a good range of pass, and wins his challenges.  His versatility at the back will provide us a number of good options."

Santiago Frias: DEF | 6-5 | 190lbs | Oakville, Ontario, Canada



Prior to UAlbany: Spent two seasons at Akron; Member of Sigma FC.

Gorman on Frias: "Santi is a composed, confident, player who brings a presence with him on the pitch.  His passing ability and vision to break lines will add a lot to our build up play."

Ivar Orri Gissurarson: MID | 6-4 | 180lbs | Reykjavik, Iceland



Prior to UAlbany: Member of HK Kopavogur sports club.

Gorman on Gissurarson: "Ivar is talented midfielder with the ability to play a number of roles.  He's comfortable on the ball, has great mobility, and can impact the game in both boxes.  We look forward to seeing him transition to the college game."

Timo Jansen: MID | 5-8 | 150lbs | Amsterdam, Netherlands



Prior to UAlbany: Played one season at Santa Barbara CC; Was a member of Ajax football club in the Netherlands.

Gorman on Jansen: "Timo is a player with excellent vision and capability on the ball.  He recognizes space and opens the game with his passing and movement.  He's another guy who can be impactful in the final third."

Mamadi Jiana: FWD | 6-0 | 175lbs | Westfield, Mass.



Prior to UAlbany: Played two seasons at Norwich University tallying 17 goals & 13 assists

Gorman on Jiana: "Mamadi is talented, skillful, player who can receive in tight spaces and run at defenders. He's a hard worker on both sides of the ball and will transition nicely to the America East."

Ben Kaplan: DEF | 6-0 | 180lbs | Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada



Prior to UAlbany: Appeared in eight games for South Florida; Former member of Toronto FC & Vaughan SC.

Gorman on Kaplan: "Ben is tough, strong, competitive, defender.  He loves the challenge of winning his duels with attackers and will bring intensity from day one.  He's also very capable on the ball and able to play in multiple positions."

Parker Kump: GK | 6-1 | 180lbs | Fairport, N.Y.

Gorman on Kump: "Parker brings great mentality and leadership qualities to the program.  He's comfortable in distribution and has top level reactions. He will strengthen our goalkeeping corps."

Chris Lee: MID | 6-1 | 175lbs | Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Gorman on Lee: "Chris is technical midfield player capable of linking play between the lines and having an impact in the final third.  He's got the quality to play the final pass and can impact the game from a variety of areas."

Zach Lind: FWD | 6-1 | 170lbs | Niskayuna, N.Y.

Gorman on Lind: "Zach is a tireless worker who's always moving off the ball.  His pressing, runs behind, and hunger to get on the end of things in the box will make him a successful collegiate forward."

Gorman on Papadopoulos: "Vasili is a talented, left-footed, player.  He has great vision, anticipation, and positioning skills.  He can be effective on the ball in the build and also in the final third."

Alexander Pechacek: MID | 6-1 | 175lbs | Vienna, Austria

Gorman on Pechacek: "Alex is an experienced midfield player with the capability to play in an attacking or defensive role.  He's someone who will offer a lot in various midfield roles."

Piet Wesling: DEF | 6-3 | 200lbs | Hamburg, Germany



Prior to UAlbany: Played for St Francis (Pa.); Named All-Conference in 2021.

Gorman on Wesling: "Piet is a mature, strong, defender.  He wins duels on the ground and in the air and brings great vocal leadership to the game.  His experience can be valuable to us this fall."
