GREAT DANE REWIND
  • The Great Danes opened the season on Monday (11.6) with a hard-fought, 58-55, win over Merrimack.
  • UAlbany fended off a fourth-quarter resurgence by Merrimack to seal the first victory of the season. 
  • Graduate student Sarah Karpell led the team with 17 points, three assists, and two steals.
  • Making her presence known, freshman Deja Evans collected a team-high six rebounds, including three offensive boards.
  • The Great Danes closed out the 2022-23 season at the WNIT against UMass.
  • Securing an overall 22-12 record, UAlbany made a run to the America East Championship with home victories against UMass Lowell and Maine in the quarter- and semifinals, respectively.
  • The Great Danes welcomed the return of six 2022-23 student-athletes - Fatima Lee, Lilly Phillips, Helene Haegerstrand, Kayla Cooper, Abby Ray, and Marie Sepp.
  • UAlbany added eight student-athletes this offseason - five freshmen and three transfers.
 
WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • With 48 total points, the UAlbany women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the America East preseason poll.
  • The Great Danes trail Vermont and Maine. The Catamounts led the conference with 63 points, including seven first-place votes, and the Black Bears followed with 58 points including two first-place votes.
  • Returning stat leader Kayla Cooper was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team after leading UAlbany on offense (15.2 points per game and a .486 FG%) and defense (8.3 rebounds per game).
 
ABOUT FORDHAM
  • The Rams opened their season on Monday with a 70-43 win over Adelphi.
  • Jenna Jordan led the scoring with 14 points from .437 shooting percentage.
  • In the 2022-23 season, Fordham finished with a 19-13 record.
  • After being eliminated in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals, the Rams advanced to the second round of the WNIT.
  • Fordham welcomed five transfers and two freshmen to their roster this season. 
  • Overall, the Rams graduated their entire starting lineup from last year. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE RAMS
  • Fordham leads the all-time series, 5-2. 
  • The last time these two sides faced off was in 2020 with Fordham earning a 71-42 victory. 
  • Returning student-athlete Kayla Cooper scored six points coming off the bench in the loss.
  • UAlbany last defeated Fordham in the 2017-18 season opener with a win in overtime, 59-52. 
 
PAST CONNECTIONS
  • Graduate student transfer Sarah Karpell hails from Fordham. 
  • Having spent two seasons as the starting point guard and two seasons as an important reserve, Karpell totaled 275 points, 230 rebounds, 229 assists, and 39 steals in 109 games as a Ram.
 
DRIVE THE LANE WITH UALBANY HOOPS
  • UAlbany will continue its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill for the third consecutive year.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Charlie Voelker and Dan Bahl every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come out to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Kills, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • With all nine teams beginning play on Monday, six teams are tied with a 1-0 record - UAlbany, Binghamton, Bryant, New Hampshire, NJIT, and Vermont.
  • Splitting for a 1-1 record, UMBC is the only team to have played two games.
  • Maine and UMass Lowell fell in their first contest of the season.
