SHORT STORY: The Great Danes won the first set but were unable to hold on to the lead as New Hampshire won, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "We came out of the gate playing very well but weren't able to sustain that pressure. The team has shown flashes of great play and we need to sustain that level for more of the match."
KEY STATS
- The offense was spread evenly with six student-athletes earning kills. Of those six, four tallied at least seven.
- Redshirt-freshman Gabriella Karman led with 10 kills.
- Junior Sthefany Carvalho notched 17 digs to lead the defense. Redshirt-sophomore Shynelle Woroniuk followed with 11 digs.
- Freshman Campbell Robinson tallied a team-high three blocks.
- Junior Zosia Szczotkiewicz served as the team's primary setter with 29 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes jumped to an 8-5 lead with a 5-1 scoring run in the beginning of the first set.
- New Hampshire gradually worked to take a one-point lead, 11-10, but UAlbany answered with five straight points for the advantage.
- Trading points, the Great Danes continued with a five-point lead before taking the set with five unanswered points.
- Going back-and-forth in the beginning of the second, the Great Danes earned a slight 11-8 lead.
- New Hampshire followed with an 8-1 scoring run.
- Returning to back-and-forth action, UAlbany was unable to overcome the point deficit as the Wildcats took the second set, 25-19.
- New Hampshire opened the third set with four straight points.
- The Great Danes closed the point gap to one, 5-4, but an 8-1 scoring run from the Wildcats put the set out of reach.
- New Hampshire closed the third set with a 7-1 scoring run.
- The Wildcats started what proved to be the final set with a 6-1 scoring run before UAlbany tied the score at seven with five unanswered points.
- New Hampshire gradually extended the point gap before taking the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
NEXT: The Great Danes will head on the road for their final regular-season contest at UMBC (Nov. 12).
