GREENWOOD, Ind. – College Sports Communicators has released its honorees for the 2023 Men's and Women's Soccer Academic All-District recognition.  The University at Albany had six women's players and two men's players earn the academic distinction.
 
Tiffany Bernot, a graduate midfielder from Old Westbury, N.Y., earned her undergraduate degree with a 3.80 GPA in Philosophy, and is in the middle of her first semester in a graduate program for Philosophy.  Bernot started all 16 games for UAlbany in 2023, recording two assists over 1,376 minutes played.
 
Iola Cotter, a senior midfielder from Teddington, England, earned a 3.79 GPA studying Economics with minors in Geography, History, and Sociology.  Cotter made 15 appearances and 14 starts in 2023, scoring two goals over 1,111 minutes played.
 
Hailey Hnis, a sophomore from midfielder/forward from Wantagh, N.Y., earned a 3.91 GPA studying Human Development.  Hnis appeared in 15 games and made nine starts, scoring two goals in 538 minutes.
 
Brooke Pickett, a senior forward from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., earned a 3.59 GPA studying Human Biology.  Pickett started all 14 games in which she appeared, scoring one goal with one assist in 820 minutes.
 
Olivia Piraino, a senior midfielder from Niskayuna, N.Y., earned a 3.89 GPA studying Biology with a minor in Psychology.  Piraino started all 16 games for UAlbany in 2023, recording a team-high three assists in 1,185 minutes.
 
Charlotte Takacsy, a senior defender from Orchard Park, N.Y., earned a 3.96 GPA studying Biology with a minor in Psychology, and was named to the 2023 America East All-Academic Team.  The 2023 team captain started all 16 games in 2023, scoring one goal and adding one assist in 1,336 minutes.
 
Miltiadis Hadjipanayiotou, a senior midfielder from Nicosia, Cyprus, earned a 3.82 GPA studying Business Economics.  Hadjipanayiotou appeared in all 17 games for the men this season, while making six starts and playing 774 minutes.
 
Shafique Wilson, a senior goalkeeper from Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada, earned a 3.86 GPA studying Business administration, and was named to the 2023 America East All-Academic Team.  Wilson started 13 games in goal for UAlbany, going 4-8-1 with four shutouts.
 
To qualify as a CSC Academic All-District selection, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore athletic and academic eligibility and have accumulated a GPA of 3.50 or higher.  Soccer nominations are limited to six per team.
