Head Coach Dwayne Killings: "I thought Quinnipiac rebounded the ball the way they needed to late in the game.  We didn't execute a couple of times towards the end, but give credit to Quinnipiac, they're off to a really good start.  I thought Tyler was a little more open earlier in the last possession but it was a pretty good look.  We have to be able to be more sound defensively, giving up 85 points on the road is a lot, but I thought, at times, we showed good defensive effort."

How it Happened
  • The University at Albany men's basketball program opened the inaugural Doc Sauers Classic, Presented by Albany Med Health System, with their game at Quinnipiac on Sunday.  The Great Danes last played the Bobcats as part of another MTE during the 2019-20 season.
  • UAlbany started the game on a 4-0 run, with back-to-back buckets from Jonathan Beagle and Sebastian Thomas.  Quinnipiac responded with a 6-0 run to take their first lead with 16:37 left in the first half.
  • In the first nine minutes of the first half, there were four lead changes and four ties.  Trailing 12-10 with 13:31 left in the first, UAlbany went on a 6-0 run to take a 16-12 lead less than a minute of game time later.
  • Quinnipiac retook the lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half.  The Bobcats' retaking of the lead corresponding with a four-minute, 9-2 run, during which their defense held UAlbany to 1-8 shooting.
  • Thomas reached double-figures with 9:39 remaining in the first half with a floater to bring UAlbany within one.  In his fourth game as a Great Dane, Thomas had scored 10 or more points in three.
  • A 7-1 run for UAlbany put the Great Danes up 30-26 with 6:20 left in the first half.  Quinnipiac interrupted the run on their ensuing possession, but Tyler Bertram and Ny'Mire Little counted with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Great Danes a 38-30 lead, and forcing a Quinnipiac timeout.
  • The Great Danes' stretched their advantage to nine before Quinnipiac chipped away to close within five.  Marshall put UAlbany back up by nine with a layup, his 10th and 11th points, with just under two minutes remaining before halftime.
  • UAlbany took a seven-point lead into halftime, 47-40, closing the first period shooting 3-4, while holding Quinnipiac to 1-5.  Thomas finished the first half with 19 points on 8-13 shooting.
  • UAlbany took its first 10-point lead right away in the second half after Aaron Reddish hit a corner three.  Quinnipiac responded with a 6-0 run over the next four minutes to close within four.
  • A 5-0 run mid-way through the second half put UAlbany back up by 10.  Quinnipiac had closed within two with 14:20 left in the second, but the Great Danes methodically rebuilt its largest lead of the afternoon over the next five minutes.
  • Quinnipiac put forth a quick burst of scoring, closing within two points again with 4:20 left in the second half.  Marshall broke the Bobcat's scoring run with a three from the top-right corner, with a hand in his face, to put UAlbany back up five with 3:51 left in the game.

  • Marshall drew a foul on a three-point attempt in the corner and was awarded three shots.  He hit all three to put UAlbany back up two right away.  On their ensuing possession, Quinnipiac drew a foul on a three-pointer and went up by one after hitting all three.
  • Bertram hit a layup to put UAlbany back up one with 1:14 to go, scoring what would be the Great Danes' final points of the afternoon.  Quinnipiac retook the lead 18 seconds later, and sealed the game with to makes from the line, 85-82.
