Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "I thought we did a nice job in the first 30 minutes. We controlled the possession, played in their half, and were dangerous. Their equalizer seemed to change things and gave them energy. Credit to Binghamton, they turned the game into a fight and were able to win second balls and generate set pieces. Ultimately, three goals on set pieces are the difference and we have to deal with those better."

How it Happened
- After a brief trek to Ithaca for a match against Cornell, the Great Danes' penultimate non-conference opponent of the 2023 regular season, the University at Albany men's soccer team kicked off a two-game home stand back in conference play against Binghamton. The Bearcats had opened their America East schedule with back-to-back draws against New Hampshire and NJIT, while UAlbany had opened 0-1-1, falling to UMBC and tying at New Hampshire.
- The game started conservatively, with neither team taking its first shot until Tiago Dias let one rip for UAlbany in the 16th minute. By this time, UAlbany had been awarded three free kicks and two corner kicks, but had not been able to capitalize on their chances.
- The first true scoring chance of the game came in the 21st minute when Binghamton broke behind the Great Danes' defensive line and crashed towards UAlbany goalkeeper Shafique Wilson, but was called offsides, erasing the play.
- In the 28th minute, Timo Jansen fired a shot from the top of the Binghamton 18. Alex Pechacek deflected the ball on its way to the goal, but Binghamton keeper Jack Root made the save despite the deflection to keep the Great Danes off the board.
- UAlbany initiated a transition opportunity in the 31st minute. Ander Castillo broke down the left sideline with the ball, and played a draw backwards to the middle of the field to a trailing Mamadi Jiana. Jiana continued to press towards the Binghamton goal, and fired a shot past Root to give UAlbany a 1-0 lead. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
- The Bearcats finally managed their first shot of the game in the 33rd minute, but the attempt was blocked by the UAlbany defense before it reached Wilson. Their only other shot of the first half came in the 41st, also blocked before threatening the UAlbany goal line.
- A chaotic sequence in the UAlbany box in the 43rd minute led to the ball landing in the UAlbany goal after last touching a UAlbany player, allowing Binghamton the tying score. The game went into halftime tied at one.
- The Bearcats changed their fortunes after halftime, taking six shots while holding UAlbany to two. Binghamton took the lead in the 69th minute after another loose ball in the UAlbany box ultimately fell to Anthony Randazzo, who capitalized on the chaos to push the ball past Wilson.
- Binghamton added one final goal in the 73rd. Michael Bush placed a long throw-in into the UAlbany box, finding the head of Calvin Moe, whose header fell into the net just out of Wilson's reach to put the Bearcats up 3-1.
- Binghamton held on to win by the same final score, earning their first conference victory of the season. By the end of the game, the Bearcats had outshot UAlbany 8-6, despite a 4-2 deficit in the first half.Â
