Alexa Harris led the Great Danes with her first double-double but it was the host, Navy, taking the 3-1 win, Saturday afternoon.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "Thank you to our hosts at the Naval Academy. We were presented with a number of opportunities for growth - we took some and are still learning from others. The team had fight in them today and I was very happy to see that."
KEY STATS
- Alexa Harris led the offense with 10 kills. Adding 10 digs, she tallied her first collegiate double-double. Her three service aces served as a team-high.
- Freshman Anna Myhal and junior Sadie Brown followed with eight kills while senior Charlotte Macken led the defense with 12 digs.
- On the net, junior Naliah Grannell totaled nine blocks and junior Hannah Rowe followed with five.
- Three Great Danes compiled two service aces - senior Malea Stanton, Brown, and Myhal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was the true definition of a back-and-forth. The first multi-point lead came from Navy, 9-7, after a 3-0 scoring run.
- UAlbany answered and tied the score at nine. After two 3-0 scoring runs for the Great Danes, UAlbany took an 18-16 lead.
- The Great Danes earned the largest lead of the first set with a 23-19 advantage.
- The Midshipmen took the first set, 26-24, after going on a 7-1 scoring run.
- The second set saw UAlbany earn five unanswered points to open up play.
- Seeing three additional scoring runs, the Great Danes extended their lead before winning the second set, 25-13.
- Navy started the third set with three-straight points. Tallying about two points for every UAlbany point, the Mids gained a 23-15 advantage.
- The Great Danes notched four unanswered points to close the scoring gap but Navy finished the set, 25-20.
- The final set went back to the close play of the first.
- After four ties and three lead changes, Navy earned a 5-0 scoring run to take a 14-8 lead. A second scoring run gave the Mids a 20-12 advantage.
- Picking up the pace, the Great Danes compiled three multi-point scoring runs, including five unanswered points, to tie the score at 23 before Navy finished the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.
NEXT: The Great Danes will return home to host Marist on September 13 for their first home game of the season.
