How it Happened
  • UAlbany hosted preseason America East favorite UMass Lowell in their second of three-straight games on Sunday.  The River Hawks boasted the reigning America East Striker of the Year and the two-time reigning Defender of the Year on their roster.
  • In the sixth minute, UAlbany goalkeeper Megan Hart collided with UMass Lowell's Chloe Layne and went down.  Layne was given a yellow card, and Hart remained in the game after getting back up.
  • UMass Lowell drew a penalty kick in the 10th minute.  Hart made a diving save to her left to punch the shot away.  The rebound landed at the feet of UMass Lowell's Anna Edson, whose secondary shot from close fell just wide of the near post.
  • UAlbany held a narrow 8-7 advantage in shots taken after the first half, though neither team was able to find the back of the net.  In addition to the save she made on the penalty kick, Hart added three more in the first 45 minutes.
  • In the 56th minute, UAlbany drew a corner kick.  Tiffany Bernot served the ball in from the corner into the front of the UMass Lowell goal.  Emily Jozak rose through the scrum of defenders and redirected Bernot's serve into the back of the net to put UAlbany up 1-0.
  • Four minutes later, the Great Danes drew a free kick just outside the UMass Lowell box.  Marisa Tava's shot attempt off the kick missed just over the far post.
  • In the 74th minute, UMass Lowell had its last best opportunity to score, when the shot from Anna Edson beat Hart but hit off the crossbar and out of danger.
  • UAlbany held on to win 1-0, securing their 2-0-0 start to conference play.  Hart recorded five total saves and earned her first career shutout, while Jozak scored her fifth goal of the season.
