Volleyball Set for Chicago State, Siena

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany women's volleyball team is set to host Chicago State on Sunday, before heading across town for Siena on Tuesday. 
 
The Great Danes' home gym, PE Gym, is down for renovations. All home games during the 2022 season will be played at the Kahl Campus Center on Russell Sage College's Albany Campus. To find the gym, put 44 Academy Rd, Albany, NY into your GPS. For more information, click here.

GREAT DANE REWIND 
  • The Great Danes opened their home slate with a four-set win over Marist (9/13).
  • UAlbany returned from the Cornell Invitational (Sept. 9-10) with two wins and one loss. The Great Danes defeated Temple in four sets before beating the host, Cornell, in five. Colgate took the final match of the weekend in four sets.
  • UAlbany opened the season at the JMU Invitational in Virginia before heading to Annapolis for the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, hosted by Navy.
  • In each of the three matches in Virginia, the Great Danes won one set. 
  • Most recently, the Great Danes returned from the Penn State Classic (Sept. 16-17) with three losses to #11 Penn State, Coastal Carolina, and Howard.
  • Throughout the season, sophomore Alexa Harris has come to lead the Great Danes with 3.04 kills per set while freshman Anna Myhal follows with 2.35 kills per set. 
  • On defense, libero Charlotte Macken leads with 4.14 digs per set. 
  • Junior Naliah Grannell and Harris lead the team with 28.0 blocks each and junior Sadie Brown follows behind with 27.0 blocks. Sophomore Anissia Wong holds a team-high six solo blocks.
  • Senior Malea Stanton leads the Great Danes with 305 assists, averaging 8.03 assists per set. 
 
ABOUT CHICAGO STATE
  • The Cougars opened the 2022 season at the Indiana Invitational (Aug. 26-27) with a four-set victory against Indiana State University (8/27). 
  • Chicago State traveled for the Windy City Invitational (Sept. 1-3) with one win and two losses. The Cougars defeated Eastern Illinois in five sets (9/2), lost to Pacific in three sets (9/1), and UIC in four sets (9/3). 
  • Returning from Illinois, the Cougars defeated Central Michigan in four sets (9/10) after falling to South Dakota State (9/6) and North Dakota State (9/9).
  • Most recently, Chicago State returned from Michigan State with a loss to Evansville (9/16) and Michigan State (9/17) and a win against Oakland (9/17) in three sets. 
  • Yanlis Feliz leads the offense with 4.50 kills per set.

ABOUT SIENA
  • The Saints opened the 2022 season at the Bearcat Classic (Aug. 26-27) with three losses - Boston College, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Binghamton - before falling to Air Force (9/2), Rhode Island (9/3), and Brown (9/3). 
  • Siena notched its first and second wins over Merrimack and Hartford at the Dartmouth Invitational (Sept. 9-10) but fell to Dartmouth.
  • Most recently, Siena returned to UHY Center with a loss against Iona (9/17) and a win against Manhattan in three sets (9/18). 
  • Sara Wagner leads the offense with 2.95 kills per set, owning a team-high of 17 service aces. 
  • Gracie Halley (4.25 digs per set) and Ece Emrullah (23.0 total blocks) lead the team's defensive maneuvers. 
  • Totaling 242 assists, Claire Isaksen serves as the team's starting setter.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE SAINTS
  • The Great Danes lead the crosstown series, 13-4.
  • UAlbany has won the last three matches in the series (2018, 2019, and 2021).
  • The longest win streak for the Great Danes was between 2002 and 2009 when UAlbany won eight matches.
  • In 2021, UAlbany won in a three-set sweep. Returning student-athletes Malea Stanton (16 assists) and Charlotte Macken (three service aces) led the team with their respective stats.
 
UP NEXT 
  • After two local games, the Great Danes will begin conference play at New Hampshire (9/30) before hosting their first league game against NJIT (10/2).
