  • UAlbany won eight corner kicks to Fairfield's one
Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "Tonight was a challenge in many ways, right from the match being delayed an hour.  Our players responded brilliantly and dominated play.  We created many clear-cut chances and showed our ability.  Sometimes one goal on a counter can change things, and we had to deal with that today.  We know our attackers will find goals in the future and we just need to keep pushing forward."

How it Happened
  • Friday night's game was delayed by more than an hour before play finally started just before 8:15 pm.
  • Setting an aggressive tone early, UAlbany fired off two shots in the first two minutes of the game, both from Andrew Weiner, who was making his first appearance of the season.  The Great Danes did not manage another shot until the 27th and 28th minutes.
  • In the final five minutes of the half, UAlbany upped its pressure, taking three shots over a span of just over two in-game minutes.  None of UAlbany's attempts broke through, however, and the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.
  • Fairfield withstood the Great Danes' pressure and mounted a scoring effort in transition in the 52nd minute when Raz Amir found Rasmus Sorensen Rejnhold to put the Stags up 1-0 early in the second.  It would prove to be the lone score of the game.
  • Though UAlbany continued applying its pressure, Fairfield made up their first-half shot deficit to a more even 8-7 in the second 45 minutes.
  • In the final seconds, Tiago Dias served the ball into the box towards Jackson Finn, who redirected to Paulo Lino.  Lino settled and turned towards the Fairfield goal only to be met by the Stags' goalkeeper James Anderson, ending the Great Danes' last chance to tie up the game.
Next: UAlbany visits Marist on September 5.
