ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany women's volleyball team will head on the road for their final tournament at #11 Penn State.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • Most recently, the Great Danes opened their home slate with a four-set win over Marist (9/13).
  • UAlbany returned from the Cornell Invitational (Sept. 9-10) with two wins and one loss. The Great Danes defeated Temple in four sets before beating the host, Cornell, in five. Colgate took the final match of the weekend in four sets.
  • UAlbany opened the season at the JMU Invitational in Virginia before heading to Annapolis for the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, hosted by Navy.
  • In each of the three matches in Virginia, the Great Danes won one set. 
  • Throughout the season, newcomer Alexa Harris has come to lead the Great Danes with 3.34 kills per set while freshman Anna Myhal follows with 2.62 kills per set.
  • On defense, libero Charlotte Macken leads with 3.97 digs per set.
  • Junior Sadie Brown owns a team-high with 25.0 blocks while sophomore Anissia Wong leads with 5.0 blocks.
  • Junior Malea Stanton has started five matches as the setter, compiling 235 assists (8.70 per set). 
 
ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
  • The Chanticleers opened the 2022 season at UNCW with three three-set wins over UNCW, Davidson, and Virginia Tech.
  • Coastal Carolina made it 4-2 on the season with a three-set victory over Memphis and two losses to TCU and Texas A&M at the TCU Invitational (Sept. 2-3).
  • In their most recent tournament, the Chanticleers fell to Wofford but earned wins over Incarnate Word and College of Charleston at the COFC Classic (Sept. 9-10).
  • Most recently, Coastal Carolina opened their home season with a four-set victory over the College of Charleston on September 13.
  • Ella Saada leads the offense with 3.53 kills per set.
  • Lina Perugini (4.77 digs per set) and Christina Nance (29.0 total blocks) lead the team's defensive maneuvers.
  • Starting setter Brigitta Petrenko owns a team-high 17 service aces and 8.83 assists per set.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE CHANTICLEERS
  • Coastal Carolina and UAlbany have met just once before.
  • The Chanticleers took a 3-1 victory at Towson in 2019.
  • Current student-athletes Malea Stanton (15 assists) and Charlotte Macken (seven digs) both saw time against Coastal Carolina and led with their respective stats.
 
ABOUT #11 PENN STATE
  • The Nittany Lions started the 2022 season at home with the Penn State Invitational. Seeing wins over UConn, Loyola (Md.), and West Virginia, Penn State grabbed an undefeated record in the first weekend of play.
  • Opening September, the Nittany Lions visited LSU for victories over LSU, Iowa State, and Troy.
  • Remaining undefeated, Penn State defeated #11 Stanford (9/9) and #18 Oregon (9/10) in five sets.
  • Kashauna Williams leads the offense with 3.11 kills per set while Seleisa Elisaia serves as the team's setter, tallying 10.06 assists per set.
  • On defense, Maddy Bilinovic owns 3.97 digs per set to lead the team and Taylor Trammell has notched 43.0 blocks to lead on the net.
  • Bilinovic has totaled 11 service aces for a team-high.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE NITTANY LIONS
  • Penn State holds a 2-0 lead over the Great Danes.
  • In their first meeting, UAlbany fell in three sets at the NCAA Tournament in 2007. 
  • Most recently, the Great Danes and the Nittany Lions met in 2013.
 
ABOUT HOWARD
  • The Bison opened the season at Georgetown, winning matches against Georgetown and George Mason.
  • At Tulane's Green Wave Classic (Sept. 2-3), Howard went 0-3 against Tulane, Ohio, and Kansas City.
  • Most recently, the Bison returned from the Fairfield Invitational (Sept. 9-11) with two wins and two losses. Howard defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and Fairfield with losses to Washington State and High Point.
  • Dami Awojobi leads the team with 2.85 kills per set.
  • Kayla Diaz serves as the main setter with 10.0 assists per set and adds 14 service aces for a team-high.
  • On defense, Amari Patterson owns 4.25 digs per set and Simone Woodard owns 23.0 blocks to lead the team.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BISON
  • Howard and UAlbany have met on just one occasion.
  • In the first season as a Division I team (1999), the Great Danes defeated the Bison, 3-0.
 
UP NEXT
  • After competing at the Penn State Classic, the Great Danes will host a match against Chicago State. UAlbany is set to begin play at 2 pm on Sunday, September 25.
