Senior Day Success, Softball Takes Series Over UMass Lowell

SHORT STORY: The Great Danes totaled two home runs, from Katie Falotico and Maddi Petrella, to lead to a 4-1 victory over UMass Lowell, Sunday.

KEY STATS
  • Graduate student Katie Falotico led UAlbany with three RBI and two multi-base hits - a double and a home run.
  • Three Great Danes went 2-3 at the plate - Falotico, junior Maddi Petrella, and senior Alexis Phillips.
  • Junior Morgan Petty crossed home twice and stole two bases for team-highs.
  • Tallying her 12th win on the season, junior pitcher Wendi Hammond threw seven strikeouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wendi Hammond closed the top of the first with a strikeout before Alexis Phillips tallied the first single of the game to lead off the Great Danes.
  • With Morgan Petty on base, Katie Falotico doubled to right-center and drove in the first run of the game.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Phillips opened the third inning with a second single. 
  • Falotico hit the first home run of the day over the right-field fence. Giving UAlbany a 3-0 lead, Falotico tallied two RBI.
  • The River Hawks added a run in the fourth before Hammond closed the inning with a strikeout.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning, the Great Dane defense tallied three straight outs, including two strikeouts from Hammond, in the top of the sixth.
  • Maddi Petrella notched a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to score the final run of the contest.
  • UMass Lowell attempted to take the lead in the final inning but the UAlbany defense closed the game with two on base for a 4-1 victory on senior day.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will head on the road to close the series against Binghamton on Wednesday, April 27.
