SHORT STORY: The Great Danes took game one, 2-1, before falling 10-7 in game two against UMass Lowell, Saturday.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 2, UMass Lowell 1
KEY STATS
- Graduate student Katie Falotico led with two RBI from her double.
- Senior Lové Drumgole led from the plate, going 1-2 and scoring one run.
- Senior pitcher Maranda Jimenez tallied the complete-game victory with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Dane defense began the day with three straight outs before Maranda Jimenez tallied the first hit of the contest.
- The River Hawks scored the first run in the top of the second.
- The third and fourth innings provided six outs with six UML batters.
- Junior Morgan Petty grabbed a hit in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to score.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, the Great Danes took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two on base, Drumgole from a single and senior Alexis Phillips from walking, Katie Falotico hit a double to give the Great Danes two RBI.
- Leaving one River Hawk on base, UAlbany closed the game with three final outs in the seventh.
GAME TWO
SCORE: UMass Lowell 10, UAlbany 7
KEY STATS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie Falotico opened the hitting in the bottom of the first inning with a single.
- Maddi Petrella followed up in the bottom of the second to get on base before Emma Adams hit her double and gave the Great Danes a 1-0 lead.
- UAlbany added four runs in the third. After Alexis Phillips drew a walk, Morgan Petty grabbed a double to put runners on first and third. Maranda Jimenez tallied a double to drive in two runs.
- With one still on base, Petrella knocked the ball over the left-field fence to add two runs and give the Great Danes a 5-0 advantage.
- Junior pitcher Wendi Hammond tallied two strikeouts to lead UAlbany in the top of the fourth.
- Jimenez sent the ball far over the center-field fence to add to the Great Danes' lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- UMass Lowell took the lead, tallying five runs in the fifth inning, four runs in the sixth inning, and one run in the seventh.
- After walking in the bottom of the seventh, Falotico crossed home for a seventh UAlbany run but it wasn't enough as the River Hawks took the game, 10-7.
NEXT: The Great Danes will close their series, and their home slate, with a final game against UMass Lowell on Sunday (April 24). UAlbany will honor the seniors in a ceremony before the start of the game.
