Petty's Grand Slam Grabs Sweep Over Maine

SHORT STORY: In a game that took place over two days, junior Morgan Petty helped the Great Danes earn a victory with a grand slam in the sixth inning, Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Black Bears began the game with a single but the runner was caught stealing just two pitches later.
  • Leading off for the Great Danes, Alexis Phillips notched a bunted single before advancing two bases. On third, Maranda Jimenez drove in the base-runner for an RBI and a UAlbany lead, 1-0.
  • In the second inning, Maine once again got on base with two walks. The Great Dane defense combined for a double-play to hold off the runners and leave one on base when they headed back to the dugout.
  • After Emma Adams got on base in the second, Schuyler Ossman hit a double to right-center to drive Adams across home plate.
  • Maine took a 3-2 lead during the third inning.
  • Before halting play on Saturday (April 9), the Great Danes tied the score at three with an RBI from Jimenez.
  • Starting play on Sunday (April 10) in the top of the fourth inning, both teams put runners on base but neither crossed home and the score remained 3-3 heading into the fifth inning.
  • The Black Bears took a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning.
  • After earning three straight outs in the top of the sixth, the Great Danes were up to bat.
  • Three batters ended up on base with just one out on the scoreboard. A fifth batter went to the plate but Maine went for the automatic out at home and the lead remained with the Black Bears.
  • After a third walk in the sixth, the Great Danes closed the lead to just one run, 5-4.
  • Morgan Petty grabbed the first hit of the sixth inning and knocked the ball out of the park for what proved to be the game-winning grand slam.
  • With three final outs from the UAlbany defense, the Great Danes took the win, 8-5.
 
MAINE SERIES GAME THREE has been canceled due to inclement weather. The weather continued to get worse so the teams decided to call the third game and let UAlbany take the series sweep, 2-0.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue at home, hosting Binghamton for a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 13).
