SHORT STORY: The Great Danes' offense powered through two victories to open the weekend at the 2022 Spring Games.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 3, Middle Tennessee 2
KEY STATS
- Caitlyn Mitros, Morgan Petty, and Katie Falotico each totaled two hits for the team's six total hits.
- Mitros notched two runs but Petty drove in two.
- Petty hit her third home run of the season.
- Maranda Jimenez pitched a complete game and improved her record to 2-0 in the circle with three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes started scoring early after Mitros tallied a hit to lead off the team.
- Falotico hit her first double of the day to bring Mitros home in the bottom of the first inning.
- MTSU earned their first hit in the second inning but the Great Danes held off any Blue Raider runs through the second inning.
- Middle Tennessee State tied the score in the top of the third.
- Mitros notched her second hit of the day to get on base in the bottom of the third inning.
- With two outs on the board, Petty hit a homer over the centerfield fence to give UAlbany a two-run lead, 3-1.
- The Blue Raiders followed with a second run in the top of the fourth.
- The Great Dane defense went 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth and held off MTSU's baserunners in the sixth, leaving two on base.
- The final inning saw one Blue Raider left on base and UAlbany took the victory, 3-2.
GAME TWO
SCORE: UAlbany 2, Georgia Southern 1
KEY STATS
- As a team, the Great Danes tallied eight hits from seven different batters.
- Schuyler Ossman notched both of UAlbany's RBI with the only double of the contest.
- Wendi Hammond pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to improve her record to 2-2 in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hammond began the game assisting with the first out, a bunt, and striking out the second batter.
- Both the top and bottom of the first three innings saw four or less batters. The Great Danes tallied three-straight outs in the second inning.
- The Eagles put four batters on base in the top of the fourth but UAlbany held off the offense and left two on base after the third out.
- After six scoreless innings for both teams, GSU tallied a run in the top of the seventh.
- Totaling three hits in the first six innings, the Great Danes more than doubled their hit total in the bottom of the seventh.
- Petty began the inning with a pop fly but Katie Falotico, Maranda Jimenez, and Maddi Petrella all got on base with a single.
- Pinch-hitter Chloe Lewis reached base when the Eagles went for the out at home.
- With two outs on the board, a full count, and the team down by one run, Ossman hit a double to drive in two runs and earn the victory for the Great Danes.
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue action at the Spring Games with two games on Saturday - Georgetown (1:30 pm) and LIU (4 pm).
