Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball team fell to UMass on Monday night, 87-73. The Great Danes struggled in the first half, committing 10 turnovers and shooting just 25% from the field. The second half was a different story, with UAlbany shooting above 50% and outscoring UMass 52-41.
Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led all players with 20 points.
Head Coach Dwayne Killings: "I didn't think we quit today. That was a really good UMass basketball team, they are off to one of their best starts in probably eight years... I thought we came out with a lot of pop. I thought we were focused, executed out game plan and a little later in the game thewy [UMass] made the game hard… We're playing a hard schedule for a reason, and I think it's going to prepare us for league play."

- The Great Danes rolled out a new starting lineup against the Minutemen. Starting for UAlbany was Gerald Drumgoole Jr., Tairi Ketner, Will Amica, Sarju Patel, and Trey Hutcheson.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led all scorers with 20 points. He went 6-14 from the field and 6-13 from beyond the arc. He led the team with five assists and 33 minutes played, while also collecting six rebounds.
- Jonathan Beagle led the team in rebounds with eight. The freshman finished with 11 points, going 5-7 from the charity stripe.
- Trey Hutcheson and Malik Edmead both finished with nine points each.
- UAlbany shot 39.7% (25-63) from the field and 33.3% (11-33) from three. UMass shot 53.2% (33-62) from the field and 20% (3-15) from three.

How it Happened:
- The Great Danes rocketed out to a 7-2 lead thanks to five from Sarju Patel and two from Tairi Ketner. The Minutemen were able to close the gap by the first media TO however, 7-6.
- UMass took the lead by the U12 TO, a 16-10 advantage. A 10-1 run put the Minutemen ahead.
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. got in some early foul trouble for UAlbany, picking up his third foul with over eight minutes remaining in the first half.
- At the U8, UMass expanded the lead to 22-13. The Great Danes went six minutes scoring just five points. UAlbany had seven turnovers at this point in the game, UMass had just two.
- The lead jumped to 35-17 by the final media TO of the first half. UAlbany was shooting just 25% from the field, committing 10 turnovers.
- UMass extended the lead to 25 points, the largest of the first half, just before the buzzer sounded. The Minutemen entered the locker room with a 46-21 advantage.
- UAlbany shot 23.1% (6-26) from the field and went just 2-12 from three in the first half. UMass shot 67.7% (21-31) from the field and went 1-5 from beyond the arc.
- UAlbany had eight points in the paint, whereas UMass had 34.
- Patel and Drumgoole Jr. led the Great Danes in scoring at the midway point, each with five points.
- UAlbany found some life coming out of the locker room. The two teams both had 11 points each before the Great Danes rattled out a 10-2 run. Aaron Reddish and Drumgoole Jr. both hit three-points, with Tairi Ketner and Malik Edmead joining in the scoring action.
- The scoreboard read 62-45 in favor of the Minutemen with 11:48 on the clock. UAlbany shot 50% from the field in the front half of the second half.
- At the U8 media timeout, the Minutemen once again found themselves with a 20+ point lead, 70-47. The lead was extended thanks to a 12-3 run just before the TO.
- UAlbany outscored UMass 18-9 in the final five minutes.
- UAlbany shot 52.8% (19-36) from the field and 45% (9-20) from three in the second half. UMass shot 38.7% (12-31) from the field and went just 2-10 from three.
