Head Coach Sade Ayinde: "What an end to a memorable season.  I could not have asked more of this team today.  The response to score two in the second half after being down and then again in overtime – we did everything we could to be in this game.  I am bummed for our seniors to not be playing again on Sunday.  They have left a stamp on this program that will be the foundation for future Great Danes to come."

How it Happened
  • Thursday represented UAlbany's second-straight America East semifinal appearance, and second-straight such game against the America East regular season champion.  Thursday's game featured the 2022 Striker of the Year, Maya Anand from Binghamton, Midfielder of the Year, Olivia McKnight from Binghamton, and Rookie of the Year, Emily Jozak from UAlbany.
  • Binghamton scored first, finding the back of the net in the 10th minute.  O. McKnight, Binghamton's third-leading scorer, was played in by Peyton Gillmore, and O. McKnight's attempt on net beat UAlbany goalkeeper Megan Hart low.
  • Charlotte Takacsy prevented quick second Binghamton goal when the Bearcats advanced in transition in the 11th minute.  Binghamton connected several passes deep in UAlbany territory before finding an open striker near the right corner of the arc.  Takascy stepped forward and deflected the ball away to end the threat.
  • Mid-way through the first half, the Bearcats had outshot UAlbany 7-1, but had only put three shots on target.  Binghamton's eighth shot, in the 18th minute, just missed off the near post after Victoria McKnight created some space for herself in the top right of the UAlbany box.
  • In the 42nd minute, Hart made a diving save on a Binghamton shot attempt to keep the UAlbany deficit at just one.
  • In the 48th minute, Olivia Piraino dribbled through the middle of the field and played Joanna Van Royen forward into the Binghamton box.  Van Royen cut and fired a shot, beating Bearcats' goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams to tie the game at one.
  • Piraino found Selma Elverum breaking towards goal in the 58th minute.  Elverum collided with Williams and the loose ball rolled over the Bearcats' goal line to put UAlbany up 2-1.
  • Binghamton scored an equalizer in the 80th minute, when Anand redirected
  • Regulation ended with the score tied 2-2.  Under the new overtime rules eliminating golden-goal, both 10-minute extra periods would be played in their entirety.
  • Binghamton broke the 2-2 tie mid-way through the first overtime period, in the 94th minute.  V. McKnight found her sister, O. McKnight, connecting to put the Bearcats back on top.
  • In the 99th minute, just before the expiration of the first overtime period, Van Royen notched her second goal of the game, beating Williams to the far side, tying the game at three.
  • Both teams had narrow misses, back-to-back, in the second overtime period.  Binghamton received the ball just in front of the goal line and missed the turnaround inches wide of the right post.  Soon after, Elverum broke behind the Bearcats' defense but missed her one-on-one shot just wide left.
  • Overtime ended with the game still tied at three.  Penalty kicks would decide who advanced to the final.
  • UAlbany kicked first in the shootout.  Marisa Tava stepped up first, converting her attempt.  Binghamton converted as well.  Next was Carly Binn, who also scored, followed by a Binghamton score to keep pace.
  • UAlbany missed each of its next three attempts, and Binghamton made its third and missed its fourth, but secured the victory when their goalkeeper, Nicole Scott, who replaced Williams after extra time, made one final stop to deny UAlbany another point.
Notes
  • The last, and only other, time UAlbany went into PKs in the America East Tournament was the 2012 quarterfinal round at four-seed Vermont.  The Catamounts advanced from that game 3-2 in the shootout.
  • UAlbany's last overtime game was October 24, 2021, due to the rule change this year to eliminate extra time during the regular season.
Next: UAlbany's season has come to an end.  Binghamton advances to the America East championship game and will host two-seed New Hampshire on November 6.
