Men’s Hoops Collects Win on Final Day of Sunshine Slam

Score: UAlbany 68, Presbyterian 65

Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball team was able to hold Presbyterian to 0-11 from outside the arc in a 68-65 victory in the final game of the Greenlight Sunshine Slam. Every UAlbany player who entered the game contributed on the scoreboard in what can be described as a total team win. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led the team with 20 points, and sophomore Ny'Mire Little had his best collegiate game with 11 points, going 5-5 from the field in the first half.
 
Head Coach Dwayne Killings: "Proud of our guys. We came out here on a big stretch of games, didn't go how we wanted, but we got the win today… Whole point of the season is to get better game by game, and I think we did that today."
 
Key Stat Lines
  • Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led all scorers with 20 points. He went 4-8 from three-point land and had a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Ny'Mire Little had the best game of his young college career, scoring 11 points in the first half and providing a spark in his first ever collegiate start. He finished with two rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes of action.
  • Aaron Reddish (3-6) and Jonathan Beagle (3-9) both finished with eight points. Reddish saw a season-high, and team-high, 34 minutes of action.
  • UAlbany shot 43% (26-62) from the field and 45% (9-20) from three. Presbyterian shot 44% (24-55) from the field and were held scoreless from beyond the arc (0-11).
  • UAlbany won the rebounding war, 38-36.
  • The Great Danes finished with 11 turnovers, the Blue Hose had 12.

How it Happened:
  • Presbyterian held a 10-7 advantage at the first media TO. Jonathan Beagle had an electric dunk for UAlbany, and Aaron Reddish had a big three-pointer. Six of Presbyterian's points came from the charity stripe.
  • The Blue Hose expanded the lead to five by the U12, 17-12. Five of UAlbany's 12 came from the hands of Gerald Drumgoole Jr., seven of Presbyterian's 17 came from the free throw line.
  • By the U8, the score read 29-22 in favor of the Blue Hose. Before the TO, Ny'Mire Little had two-straight buckets for the Great Danes, working in the lane and dancing through traffic.
  • At the final TO of the half, UAlbany closed the deficit to just one point, 33-32. Ny'Mire little got off to the best start of his collegiate career, going 5-5 from the field and 1-1 from three to lead the Great Danes with 11 points.
  • The Great Danes came alive at the end of the half, closing a nine-point deficit to take a 40-39 lead going into the locker room. The half ended as Jonathan Beagle hit a big three-pointer as time expired to put UAlbany up for the first time all game.
  • UAlbany shot 53.1% (17-32) from the field and 50% (4-8) from three in the first half. Presbyterian shot 51.7% (15-29) from the field and went 0-5 from three.
  • Presbyterian took the lead coming out of the locker room, 48-46. The Great Danes started just 2-8 from the field, but the two converted were three pointers from Drumgoole Jr. and Reddish.
  • UAlbany took a two-point lead at the U12 TO, 50-48. The bench put the Great Danes ahead with buckets from Malik Edmead and Sarju Patel.
  • By the U8 UAlbany maintained a one-point advantage, 55-54. Presbyterian had 21 made FGs at this point, with 19 of them coming from within the paint.
  • With under four minutes to go, the Great Danes found themselves up 63-58 thanks to an 8-0 scoring run.
  • With 30 second left, up three, the Great Danes tried to put the game away on a three-pointer from Little in the corner. Though the shot didn't fall, Drumgoole Jr. was able to collect the rebound and shoot it back out to Little, who was immediately fouled and sent to the line.
  • Presbyterian had the ball with seven seconds, down three, but was unable to burry the shot.
  • UAlbany shot 31.0% (9-29) from the field and 41.7% (5-12) from three in the second half. Presbyterian shot 33.3% (9-27) from the field and finished the game without a three-pointer (0-11).
