Volleyball Closes the Regular Season at Home

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany volleyball team returns home to close the regular season with two matches. 

On Sunday, November 13, the Great Danes will hold a ceremony honoring their seniors following the end of the match.

GREAT DANE REWIND 
  • The Great Danes opened their home slate with a four-set win over Marist (9/13).
  • UAlbany returned from the Cornell Invitational (Sept. 9-10) with two wins and one loss. The Great Danes defeated Temple in four sets before beating the host, Cornell, in five. Colgate took the final match of the weekend in four sets.
  • Facing top-tier teams, including #11 Penn State, UAlbany added competition at invitationals hosted by JMU (Aug. 26-27), Navy (Sept. 2-3), and Penn State (Sept. 16-17).
  • The Great Danes faced crosstown rival Siena (9/27), winning in four sets, after falling to Chicago State (9/25). In an away match, UAlbany swept Stonehill (10/6) for their sixth win.
  • Starting home conference play, the Great Danes defeated NJIT (10/2) in three sets after a four-set loss to New Hampshire (9/30). UAlbany added losses to Bryant (10/7) and UMBC (10/16).
  • The Great Danes grabbed a thrilling five-set win over Binghamton (10/21), before falling to Bryant (10/23) and NJIT (10/30) in hard-fought matches.
  • Most recently, UAlbany fell to Binghamton in a three-set match (11/6).
  • With 273 kills, sophomore Alexa Harris has come to lead the Great Danes on offense, averaging 3.10 kills per set.
  • On defense, senior libero Charlotte Macken leads with 4.15 digs per set. 
  • Sophomore Anissia Wong leads the team in blocks with 55, including a team-high 12 solo blocks. Junior Naliah Grannell follows closely with 48 total blocks. 
  • Senior Malea Stanton and sophomore Zosia Szczotkiewicz serve as the Great Danes' setters. Stanton leads with 669 assists, averaging 8.16 per set. 
  • Junior Kaleigh Fitzgerald holds a team-high 33 service aces. 
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Wildcats opened the 2022 season at the Holly Young Invitational (Aug. 26-27) only losing one set in their four matches against Merrimack, St. Francis Brooklyn, St. Peters, and Hartford. 
  • New Hampshire also participated in the Villanova (Sept. 2-7), Tennessee (Sept. 9-10), and George Mason (Sept. 16-17) tournaments, finishing with a record of 5-5.  
  • UNH added two wins with mid-week matches against Holy Cross (9/7) and Merrimack (9/21). 
  • New Hampshire started conference play, 2-2, with a win against UAlbany (9/30), a loss to Binghamton (10/2), followed by a win to NJIT (10/7) and a loss to Bryant (10/9). 
  • UNH faced Stonehill for two mid-week matches resulting in two wins (10/12) and (10/19). 
  • The Wildcats were handed two close losses from Binghamton (10/16) and UMBC (10/23). 
  • Most recently, UNH picked up 3-1 wins against Bryant (10/30) and UMBC (11/6). 
  • Hannah Serbousek leads the offense with 2.82 kills per set. 
  • Mia Pagliarini (3.09 digs per set) and Kara Oxenknecht (96.0 total blocks) lead the team's defense. 
  • Wren Macauley has totaled a team-high 336 assists and leads with 5.25 assists per set. Jamison White follows with 4.09 assists per set.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS 
  • The Great Danes lead the series 30-29. 
  • UAlbany and New Hampshire went against each other three times throughout the 2021 season. The most recent of which was the America East Semifinal where the Great Danes won, 3-0.
  • Earlier this season, the Great Danes fell to UNH in four sets, resulting in a 1-3 loss (9/30). 
 
ABOUT UMBC
  • The Retrievers opened their season at the Cardinal and Gold Classic (8/26-27) beating Villanova, 3-1, before falling to #24 USC and Colgate in three sets each. 
  • After a 3-1 loss to American University (9/2), UMBC went on a four-game win streak beating Delaware (9/4), James Madison (9/9), Niagara (9/11), and Old Dominion (9/16). 
  • Their win streak was snapped at the VCU Invitational by VCU (9/17) in five sets, which they followed up with a three-set loss to UNC. 
  • The Retrievers added two more wins to their record against Coppin State (9/20) and American University (9/28) before conference play began. 
  • To start America East play, UMBC picked up wins against Bryant (10/1) and Binghamton (10/7), giving them a record of 2-0. 
  • The Retrievers added four-straight wins with two sweeps over NJIT (10/14) and UAlbany (10/16), followed by two more wins against New Hampshire (10/23) and NJIT (10/28). 
  • UMBC fell to Binghamton (10/30) and picked up a mid-week win against Howard (11/2). 
  • Most recently, the Retrievers faced UNH in a 3-1 defeat (11/6). 
  • Mia Bilusic leads the team with 351 kills for 4.18 kills per set. 
  • Aysia Miller (4.25 digs per set) and Mila Llieva (101.0 total blocks) lead the team's defense. 
  • Serin Maden serves as the setter, totaling 842 assists. She averages 10.40 assists per set. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE RETRIEVERS 
  • With a record of 34-13, UAlbany leads the all-time series. 
  • UMBC won both regular season matches, as well as the America East Championship, in 2021.
  • Earlier this season, the Retrievers swept UAlbany (10/16).
  • UMBC owns a five-game win streak over the Great Danes.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • America East regular season play concludes this weekend. 
  • Binghamton leads the AE with seven wins and two losses, and a spot in the AE Championship. 
  • UMBC (6-2) and Bryant (5-3) follow closely behind. Both teams clinched a berth to the AE Tournament. 
  • New Hampshire (4-4) and UAlbany (2-6) are battling for the last spot in the championship tournament. 
  • NJIT rounds out the conference with one win and eight losses.
