SHORT STORY: The Great Danes owned the offensive advantage but it was Columbia taking the 3-2 win, Sunday.
KEY STATS
- Both freshman Alison Smisdom and sophomore Lara Mortz compiled one goal and one assist for three points each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions opened the scoring with 18 seconds left in the first quarter.
- Freshman Alison Smisdom tied the score with 7:13 on the second-quarter clock. Assisted by sophomore Lara Mortz and freshman Blanca Orsola, Smisdom scored a goal from the top of the circle during a penalty corner.
- Less than a minute later, Columbia took the lead back with a second goal.
- During the third quarter, at 2:20, Mortz added the Great Danes' second goal. Smisdom went for a shot from the top of the circle and Mortz was on the deflection to tip the ball into the goal.
- Before the third quarter closed, the Lions were awarded a penalty stroke. Columbia's Kelsey Farkas owned a successful stroke attempt.
- UAlbany tallied four shots, to the Lions' one, in the fourth quarter but was unable to take the lead and Columbia won the contest.
NEXT: UAlbany heads on the road for a full weekend in Ithaca, N.Y. The Great Danes will take on Cornell on Friday (Sept. 17) before facing No. 1 Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 18).
