Short Story: UAlbany sweeps its first doubleheader of the season, with a 4-2 game one win and a 5-4 game two win, as Joe Kruszka earned the victory in both games. 
 
Coach Jon Mueller"Scherrer and Germinario got us going with two solid starts. The offense did enough to keep us close and we battled back two times through the day and showed mental toughness. Kruszka was dominant at the end of both games. The key was the fundamental defense we played throughout the weekend."

How it Happened Game 1
  • UAlbany struck first when Johnny Marti singled to center field and drove home Marc Wangenstein. With four ensuing scoreless innings and the Great Danes ahead 1-0, NJIT struck for two runs in the fifth.
  • In the inning, NJIT's Daniel Helfgott hit an RBI single, followed by a John Shukur sacrifice fly as the Highlanders took a 2-1 lead.
  • Wangenstein responded with a game-tying solo home run in the next half inning and the teams were tied 2-2 in the sixth.
  • After a scoreless bottom half, Josh Loeffler broke the tie with a two-run single to right field that drove home John Daly and Will Feil. NJIT could not respond with any runs in the bottom half, as UAlbany took a 4-2 game one victory.
How it Happened Game 2
  • NJIT's Paul Franzoni produced the game's first run when he hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Highlanders added two more runs in the seventh inning when Luke Longo hit a two-run single to left field, as they took a 3-0 lead.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, John Daly hit a game-tying three-run triple that drove home Dolan Ocasal, Will Feil and Jason Bottari. Josh Loeffler followed with an RBI single that drove home Daly, as UAlbany took a 4-3 lead.
  • In the bottom of the ninth inning, NJIT's Julio Marcano hit a game-tying home run that sent the game to extra innings. 
  • In the tenth inning, Brad Malm hit a sacrifice fly that drove home Daly and gave the Great Danes a 5-4 lead. Joe Kruszka was able to shut the door in the bottom half to earn his second win of the day, as UAlbany took a 5-4 game two win.
